Tip: Categorizing images[edit]

Hello, Kes47!
Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Thanks for experimenting with the Commons. Your test on Copán, Honduras worked, and it has been reverted or removed; please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Feel free to visit the community portal if you would like to learn more about contributing. Thank you!

you have already create the Category:Copán, Honduras so this empty page is unused. Regards, Otourly (talk) 06:12, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

No problem, that's ok. Only administrators could delete file on Commons. I couldn't imagine what commons would be if everybody could do that :) Otourly (talk) 07:44, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Your userpage[edit]

Hi, on your User page User:KES47 you could add some information about your spoken langages as User fr etc please see Commons:Babel for more information. Regards, Otourly (talk) 09:27, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

File:Rayleigh sunlight scattering.svg[edit]

You can't take a GFDL/CC-BY-SA image and make a Public Domain copy, like you did with File:Rayleigh sunlight scattering.svg. Please correct the licensing or your version will have to be deleted. Dragons flight (talk) 18:34, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

File:DL-Glucose.svg[edit]

Hello KES47, I noticed that you overwrote the image with a different version. Many of my images are used in more than one project and are drawn the way they are on purpose. I would prefer if you uploaded the changed image with another filename, rather than overwriting the existing image. It's no problem to have multiple images for the same chemical compound. Can you please have a second look at File:O6metilguanina.svg. There is now a double bond missing in the righthand ring. Compare with File:6-O-Methylguanine.png. Thank you. Ed (Edgar181) 18:46, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

The letters in –OCH3 have a slightly different size, the “3” has a different font type. Could you please fix this? --Leyo 07:32, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Would either you or User:AnonMoos be able to add border lines to the West Africa coastal area, and extend the border lines to the coast? I added South Sudan, but am not well equipped to draw lines. Delphi234 (talk) 02:59, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

File:Alkanschmelzundsiedepunkt.svg[edit]

Hello KES47, could you please redraw the diagram without interpolation lines? We are having a discussion (in german) about the diagram at de:Wikipedia:Redaktion_Chemie#Alkane, if you want to give your opinion (in english), you are very welcome. Basically: There is no alkane between propane and butane (and the others, too), so a line between the dots is inaccurate. --Nothingserious (talk) 15:51, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

Font samples for £ sign?[edit]

If you have the time and opportunity, I wonder if you might create a sampler of pound signs equivalent to Moreeurofonts.svg? Ideally, it would include an example with two bars, like Bodoni MT Black (which is the only font I can find that does this - hardly surprising as it is an obsolete form). But only if it is trivial to do. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 21:38, 8 November 2019 (UTC)

Per my talk page, thank you again. It is now live at en:wiki:pound sign under #Historioc variants. When you have time, would you take a look and let me know if you are content with how I have done the attribution, please? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 21:13, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
