Can you delete this image or put a DR on it? It was certainly licensed 'all rights reserved' when uploaded to Commons in October 2008 and it was not moved by a bot. I don't understand why it is still here:

Its a clear cut copy this case and is not used anywhere on wiki. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:25, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
✓  Done Abigor talk 06:31, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
  • Thanks Abigor. I don't understand why the image got moved into the 'Possibly unfree flickr image category'.' After all, it was only uploaded in October 2008. It should have stayed in the 'Recent unfree flickr image category.' Oh well, at least its gone. With kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:14, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing this while I was gone, Abigor. --Kanonkas(talk) 15:35, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Note: This is an interesting...and very long DR request by the original uploader: [1] It should be a simple DR to close since its the uploader's own request. Cheers, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:29, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Help on a rename request

Dear Admin Kanonkas, Can you please place a rename request on this image I uploaded:

Kan du se på dette bildet? File:Costumes Saami.jpg og diskusjonssiden der. Dette har kommet opp på i dag. Om ikke bildet blir slettet, bør det nok i alle fall få nytt navn, tenker jeg. MVH 3s (talk) 10:03, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Tviler på at bildet vil bli slettet. Hva slags navn tenkte du på? --Kanonkas(talk) 15:12, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for your proposition. My English is not good enough for me to be able to solve conflicts with English speaking users. I don't have any problem for French users (I'm already a sysop on fr: by the way), but if I can focus on the maintenance, the technical work, then I accept the status with pleasure. when i came to wikipedia i did not know the rules with pictures from the start and my english is not the best, i have uploaded some pictures wrongly as free pictures, but that was just at the start. then i have uploaded only free pictures like this one. regards Cukiger — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk • contribs) 16:51, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Really hard to to believe a serial copyright violater. Not to mention, you uploaded that image before you got caught uploading copyright violations. That was in September, while this was in August 2008. --Kanonkas(talk) 16:59, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

that was just misunderstanding. well, it is not that important that we must discuss that long, but the upload date is prove enough i think.Cukiger

Mi pictures

I sended a private message to flickr's user asking for permission to use the images, and after a couple of days he changed the license of all the photos I've uploaded. So, I don't know what I must to put in the "permission" section... can you help me?... --TheHellraiser (talk) 01:49, 24 February 2009 (UTC) (PD: Sorry for my bad english) (PD2: Send me a reply on my talk page, not here please, i'm not an usual commons user)

If the author has changed the license on Flickr, then you don't have to do anything in the permission field. Except, you need to remove the GFDL part, as the images are under CC-BY-2.0 (which you have already fixed), so you've done everything correct. Thanks for contacting the author to change the license. Also, for getting Commons some free images! Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 19:40, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Major Flickrbot review failure

Dear Admin Kanonkas,

  • Can you kindly ask some of the Commons Admins or trusted users to mark the massive pile of outstanding flickr images? Many of the images have been waiting to be marked since Feb 21 or 22 (1 week+) and there are 199 images in this one page (I didn't know it was this serious!) However, the real figure is certainly 800+ images. I don't have any images in the pipeline but someone complained about the situation on Lupo's talkpage. Here are some great images....waiting to be marked:

I hope you know someone Admins/trusted users who can mark the massive backlog. The flickr backlog is really bad. Even your own uploaded pictures of the Dutch model Milou Verhoeks from February 20...has NOT been passed. Something is seriously wrong here. --Leoboudv (talk) 22:52, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I've tried to help out by reviewing some of the images in the category. However, it's really big. I've been trying to get some help. It will take time, that's for sure. --Kanonkas(talk) 14:04, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for approval!

I'm not sure I will use the AWB very much here, but it will certainly make it easier for some edits. Mikael Häggström (talk) 06:24, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Happy to help you out. Give me a note, if you need help! Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 13:57, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Is Kevmin a trusted user or an Admin? If he isn't, this highly appropriate rename application for this photo will fail sadly.

Kevmin is not a trusted user, or an admin. I've made a null edit. IIRC, that would make the bot rename - If a trusted user/admin edited the page, before the bot did the rename. --Kanonkas(talk) 03:09, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Melissa Rycroft images

Hello. I uploaded these for Wikipedia, and I believe that it is an important enough article to have a picture for it. But, free use/public domain pictures are going to be extremely hard to find. I thought I tagged these properly, but I guess not. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks! Manningmbd (talk) 21:42, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Good day. Commons doesn't allow fair use, which is why I deleted the pictures. You may find User:Kanonkas/Links useful, or you could try Flickr. CC-BY and CC-BY-SA are the only licenses we allow from Flickr, unless they've licensed under another free license that we could use. They would have to e-mail OTRS about that, as they need to verify the license. Good luck finding some free images! Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 13:48, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Commons-emblem-issue.svg File:Jessica_Simpson_and_Nick_Lachey.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

The source file said "Courtesy image". While that may be acceptable on EnWiki as a PromoPhoto, there is no evidence that there was a free license granted. If you can show me where I made a mistake, I'll be glad to undelete it. -- Avi (talk) 08:06, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

File:David Haye.png

Hi Kanonkas,

you recently deleted File:David Haye.png after this deletion request. I'm not quite sure about the reasons for deletion. The photo was copied from Flickr and the Flickr user's profile says that she is a professional photographer. The profile also links to her website, where this photo is shown as one of her works. I looked at several of her other Flickr uploads, and they were all taken with the same camera model as this boxing photo. So I think we can assume that this was indeed taken by her and released under a cc license. --Kam Solusar (talk) 17:38, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Well, I thought perhaps that might be the case. I do thing that the person should verify they are the copyright holders through OTRS, but I'll leave this one up to others. It's not so clear-cut in my opinion. PeterSymonds (talk) 20:24, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
I'm going to contact the website owner though OTRS. If I get a response I'll undelete the image and tag it. J.smith (talk) 20:28, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

I've contacted an OTRS agent (J.smith) - you can see his response above. The reason why I deleted, was that in my opinion this needed OTRS clarification. As such a delete was in order so "copyright issues, etc" could be be clarified by OTRS. Mostly per Peter's evidence in the DR, was the reason why I deleted, while I also did take your concern in the close. --Kanonkas(talk) 20:48, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

✓  Done - image has been verified via OTRS, undeleted and marked as appropriate. J.smith (talk) 21:00, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. Verification through OTRS is of course the best solution. --Kam Solusar (talk) 19:01, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

A note on checking image file histories

Dear Kanonkas,

  • You may have noticed that I said I supported Ciell's RfA because there are too few Admins on Commons. I think this is a serious problem because when only 200 Admins here carry the workload, serious mistakes can happen and good images can be deleted. This was one excellent image which faced deletion:
  • File:Arothron hispidus.jpg

I don't blame Admin Martin here and he apologised to me for not checking the file history to see that the image was actually passed by flickr review when it was first uploaded. This is what can happen when only a few Admins are available to handle matters. No one has enough time to check each and every picture's image history and good images are deleted. I saw another case where an anonymous IP vandal removed the original flickr pass for one image and someone else--a non-Admin--quite naturally subjected the photo to a new and totally unnecessary review. The Result: the image now fails flickr review because the flickr owner has changed the license to make it more restrictive. Soon, someone slaps a 'no permissions' or 'copy vio' tag on it for deletion. Luckily someone noticed it in time or else the photo would be gone too. I hope that when an Admin deletes a file, they are always reminded to check the file history first! Can only 200 Admins handle Commons? I have serious doubts after seeing the backlogs of images still in DR for months now because only 2 or 3 or 4 Admins have enough time to attack them. Maybe 260 or 270 Admins on Commons is ideal. Its really strange: on Wikipedia many people try 2,3 4 or 5 times to be an Admin while here on Commons, few apply for the job. Its almost as if no one cares about Commons because all the action is at Wikipedia. With kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:06, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Indeed - this is quite an issue. However, we all make mistakes. I am quite sure it doesn't happen that often, usually a note to the deleting administrator makes them more cautious. Yes, Commons is in need of more sysops who are dedicated to this project. However, it takes time to get a big community like the English Wikipedia. Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 14:36, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
  • Good luck on nominating good new Admins or sys ops here. I think the Admins here are pretty good but a bit overworked right now. In contrast, I have heard a few stories of some bad Admins on Wikipedia in the past and Admin vs. Admin wheel wars there. This, of course, is not neeeded on Commons. Cheers, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:17, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
  • By the way, can you please mark this image:
  • File:Human Rights China .jpg ?
The flickr review bot said the image was 'not found' but this is impossible. Its indeed on the flickr link. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 03:53, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Dear Kanonkas, Do you know anything about the Magnus Manke bot. I raised a question here on a certain image at village pump about 10 hours ago but no one has responded. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:31, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

That was a while ago. Today when I tried to use it - it only accepted CC-BY and CC-BY-SA. If I tried to upload some other file, I would get this note: "Checking license ... Unsuitable license : 0". Hope this helped you a bit! Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 19:47, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
  • Thank you for your note. I guess in March 2008, Magnus Manke could take images with any licenses then...unlike FlickrLickr. This person's other images from Cuba are licensed as 'cc by sa" but I guess the image is not verifiable then. A pity. --Leoboudv (talk) 20:02, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your kind help. I'm sorry I made a mistake in the year. That was a good 'high resolution' photo from my new Canon camera. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:05, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
As an aside, this great image failed rename. I would say it deserves another try: File:Woda-9 ubt.jpeg Cheers, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:08, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

please clairify

I am not sure what you mean on my talk page...thanks!

Moviebuffy (talk) 22:42, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

I think he means that Commons has a specific scope of the type of content it hosts. The page he deleted was a person's name. This is not an image or gallery of images and is therefore outside of the scope of Commons. MBisanz talk 22:45, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Consolations. Better luck next time. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 10:03, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Aye, just a bit more practice and you'll be there. MBisanz talk 10:04, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Can you place a rename request on this image file which I uploaded.

Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:08, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Matt for the rename. --Leoboudv (talk) 06:36, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

my test

Hi. I'd have removed that myself in a moment. I'm wondering if the template should be at a different name than ep:wp. Cheers, Jack Merridew 14:37, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Jack. I think the template name is fine - unless you know a better name? :) --Kanonkas(talk) 14:40, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
Works for me then, theory of least astonishment; it will be easier to keep track of the relationship with en:wp. Oh, Greetings from Bali ;) Cheers, Jack Merridew 14:45, 15 April 2009 (UTC)real name's David

Regarding User:Kanonkas/warn.js, shouldn't there be a level 1 and level 2 warning for vandalism? --ALLSTAR echo 10:07, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

They're available in the script. The level one warning is inside "General note (1)", and the second one inside "Caution (2)". Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 12:39, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm not seeing that. Under "General note (1)", the only options I have is "[Test]:Test", "[Be civil]:Civil", "[Project scope]:Out of project scope edits", "[Dont remove nsd or nld]:Page blanking, removal of content or templates", "[No fair use]:Fair use content" and "[Image source]:Media source link" - but nothing about vandalism. Under "Caution (2)", the only options I have is "[Test2]:Test", "[Derivativenote]:Derivative notice", "[Copyvionote]:Copyright violation", "[dont recreate]:Recreating deleted content" and "[uw-delete2]:Page blanking, removal of content or template" - but again, nothing about vandalism. What am I missing? --ALLSTAR echo 18:28, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
We use the test one as the first "vandalism" warning. --Kanonkas(talk) 18:30, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Ahh, ok. I think it should be labeled more clearly like on the en.WP twinkle. The en.WP twinkle as 2 options in this regard, one for vandalism "[uw-vandalism1]:Vandalism" and one for edit tests "[uw-test1]:Editing tests". I'm sure you can understand it's obvious confusion. Anyway, thanks for clarifying it for me. --ALLSTAR echo 18:35, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

German translation

Dear Kanonkas, I managed to get this important image placed on Commons by the flickr account owner:

Could you kindly provide a German translation of my note on the terms of use of the photo:

  • ie: "NOTE: Do NOT upload a higher resolution image of this photo. The OTRS permission only allows a 332 X 450 pixel version of this image to be used on Wikipedia/WikiCommons. Thank You"

A translation of this sentence in German would help so people in Europe who are fluent in German know they cannot upload the highest resolution image from the flickr link. This is just to make sure German speaking users know what the words mean. This is a lower resolution image for an important cultural object. Can you provide this translation and add it below my English note for the image file? Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:29, 19 April 2009 (UTC) --Leoboudv (talk) 02:29, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Leoboudv and Kanonkas, I just took the freedom and translated the description into German as I am a native speaker. --AFBorchert (talk) 07:06, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
  • Thanks AFBorchert. My German is non-existent as I am Canadian. My impression is that most specialists in Egyptology are fluent in either English, French or German. Hence, the need for at least a German translation of the terms of use for the picture. With kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:48, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Sorry for the late response, I'm rather busy these days. Thanks AFBorchert. I'm glad that AFB took care of this, meanwhile I was away. It's appreciated. Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 13:05, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

PD review

PD review is now on. List of pertinent pages is here: User_talk:Rlevse#PD_review. I'll start when I get home this evening by marking images I know are solid PD. Ideas on how to advertise us are welcome (Admin board, etc). We'll also need to check the files needing review cat regularly. RlevseTalk 10:12, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

The templates are ready now. So let's get to it. RlevseTalk 09:51, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your work, Rlevse. I'll be sure to try doing some reviews. Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 12:37, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

This uploader's images

Dear Admin Kanonkas, is there a compelling reason to keep this image: File:Dados aritméticos.jpg Please look at the restrictive license, the fact that the image is unused on Wikipedia and, finally, that, there is no longer a verifiable source. The uploader posted maybe 3-4 images and then promptly vanished from Commons. I don't know if the uploader even holds the copyright. What do you think?

  • As an aside, Kam Solusar submitted another of the uploader's images with a simlar restrictive license (only a different author) for a flickrreview yesterday and it failed the review as ARR. Finally, this image by the same uploader is rather low quality and remains unused: File:Integral definida.jpg

Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:53, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

I think I'd go with a delete here. Their upload history pretty much says it, IMO. --Kanonkas(talk) 13:55, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Admin and IP block exemption

Hi Kanonkas, I just wanted to warn you that on Commons, for some reason, Administrators are not automatically IP block exempt. That's why I had this flag, I was being blocked by the Tor filter. Unless there's been some recent software change, this flag should be left on. Dcoetzee (talk) 21:23, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Seems like you're right. I've got the issue clarified. It seems like the TOR filter was recently updated. Apparently TOR override didn't exist to administrators, but only for users in the COM:IPBE group. That should explain the issue. Thank you for informing me. Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 19:41, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Do you still need IPBE?  — Mike.lifeguard 01:43, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Chinese Zodiac

Would you like to upload the icons for Rooster, Pig, and Dog for this?

Lia Rio Nika Talk 14:59, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I'm not really familiar with that. I think it's best for you to do that, as long as the icons are under an appropriate license. If you need help, I'll try my best. Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 15:00, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Help please

Hi, Kanonkas! Sorry to disturb you but I'm a little confused. Please help me prove that I have the right to use the image I uploaded the map for the city's wikipedia page. I made my own map based on the Turkish Government Database (copyrighted) ones. Is it legal and correct to use it in a Wikipedia page? If it is illegal please delete all of them (Category:Maps of Giresun). Regards.--Kuara 17:28, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

As long as it's not a direct copy I think it's fine. There might be some derivative work issues if you did copy, if you did not you shouldn't get any. However, I think the map you asked me about is fine. --Kanonkas(talk) 17:35, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Hello, I need your help

The Russian description of the File:Renal corpuscle.svg is now very poor (in fact if translated it texts "The purification of the blood is made in the kidneys", so, it doesn't describe the picture at all). I've tried to change it, but the page is protected. Please, change the actual Russian discription (Русский: В нефроне происходит очистка крови.) to this one: Русский: Схема строения почечного тельца. The discription of this file in the Russian Wikipedia (look at [4]) was already corrected today. Thanks a lot! Mevo (talk) 08:23, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi. Can you please give me a link to the file in question? Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 13:41, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

RfA processing

I think will be good idea to not interfere with bureaucrat who currently processing RfA. Just to avoid edit conflicts. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:53, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Please, check this. I used Magnus and I want to know if everything is OK. Thanks, df. (talk) 10:51, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

There might be some issues with the licensing. The one I'm thinking about is: "this image might not be in the public domain outside the United States". Note that I'm not that good at PD. I think you should ask Lupo. Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 13:24, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

This image

Dear Kanonkas,

Can you transfer this image from Romanian wiki to Commons? I tried to do it with my TUSC account through tool server and it says the license is unverifiable...which is impossible: [5] There is a clear PD license and legitimate metadata. The precise message I get is This image has no verificable good license, and can thus not be uploaded to commons through this tool.

I would categorise it under "Iaşi Palace of Culture" I hope you (or a Romanian Admin/trusted user) can transfer it because there are few images of this palace here. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:24, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi Leo. Sorry for not getting to this. Thank you for taking care of the upload. I think the problem was that TUSC, refuse to upload files that don't have a source in the source field. Kanonkas // talk // e-mail // 16:03, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

That woman has done undue damage to my life, and job. She did this for no real reason, save for false premises; she's sloppy, and aggressive.

The situation she caused remains active, and she's done nothing to correct it. Claiming that I'm harassing her is the epitome of aggressor-claiming-victimization that is that woman's hallmark. I had no interest in her, and only a passing interest in this website, when she started a large-scale project out of here. If you are looking for the abuse, harassment, intimidation and life-wrecking, you tell her to go in front of the mirror, then tell her to get her hind-end in front of a computer, and she should go about, with the same 'enthusaism' that she caused this problem, to admit that she had NO idea what she was talking about, and that this should be shut down. I'm quite sick of wiping up her dirt. And she smeared it over thousands of people.

If you didn't take this to ANI, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Tell her to look in the mirror, and clean up the mess she made.

Quite simple stuff, but evidently rocket-science to that woman. She's rather cry victim. Which is sort of like (insert criminal of the week) claiming that he's picked on unfairly by the law profession. She started it. She can finish it. I've no further interest in her, save for her mess which I have to cope with.

Thank you. 16:17, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
