Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Projet Monuments Historiques français

[edit]
Dear Commons user,

We noticed you adopted . Thanks for your work in the field of Monuments Historiques français !

In case you did not know about it, we invite you to take a look at the Projet Monuments Historiques français.

We hope to see you soon ! — Jean-Fred (talk) 12:56, 29 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Tall ships

[edit]

I don't agree with your placing of categories related to historical sailing ships into the category tall ships by type. Please see Category talk:Tall ships for a discussion on the matter. This category is only useful for actual tall ships that have participated in Tall Ships' Races. It's quite irrelevant to Mary Rose and the likes.

Peter Isotalo 13:25, 7 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

OK; the idea was only to group Carrack (ship) and Carracks. I assume Galleons and Caravel should be removed too? M-le-mot-dit (talk) 16:44, 7 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure I see the point of keeping any ship types at all in that category. After all, it's really only a specific type of event with little relevance to anything else. How would it actually help users?

Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Gay-Neck, the story of a pigeon

[edit]

You inserted only 12 of the 16 missing pages. There are still four pages to be inserted. --EncycloPetey (talk) 23:23, 12 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

I am also finding multiple pages where the image is mismatched with the page contents that should be displayed at that location. --EncycloPetey (talk) 23:25, 12 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

@EncycloPetey: Images facing page 56 inserted. ---- M-le-mot-dit (talk) 00:34, 13 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! --EncycloPetey (talk) 01:19, 13 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
