Thanks for your message. Could you tell me:

  1. What this magazine and the article are about?
  2. Did they respect the licence and mention my name?

Thanks. --TwoWings * to talk or not to talk... 12:01, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

SS Celtic pictures[edit]

I'm not 100% sure about steam ship or sail-steam ship. I'm not an expert on ships. Possibly it is a sail-steam ship, but I cannot be any more definate than that. Mjroots (talk) 08:23, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Uploading new versions of image[edit]

Hi Manxruler.

The easiest way to upload an edited image is as follows. Download the image you want to edit and make a copy - this is used as a 'reference' to compare the edited image with. Edit the downloaded original image and save over the original - this keeps the filename exactly the same and allows the version on Wikipedia to be overwritten. Click on 'Upload file' in the 'Participate' menu at the left to upload the edited version. You will then get the page 'Commons:Upload' - select 'Go directly to the main upload form.' On this page select your edited file in the dropdown box and add a summary of your edits in 'Additional info' - leave the rest of the boxes blank. Then click on 'Upload file'. You will then get a warning page that the file already exists and do you want to overwrite it - select Save'. If you have any problems then leave me another message. Images from Bundesarchive to Coastal artillery[edit]

Just fyi, I'm changing the images you've added to the category Coastal artillery, from bundesarchive, location Norway, to a subcategory of that category, named Coastal artillery in Norway. If you come across any more such images, please add them there instead of the parent category Coastal artillery. Jerazol (talk) 20:50, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Most of these are probably German World War II coastal artilleries, true, but quite a few of these were constructed on the sites of existing pre-ww2 coastal fortresses, and many of them were also to a certain extent used after ww2. Not really sure what would be the most appropriate name. Jerazol (talk) 20:57, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I have to say, this donation from the bundesarchiv is really cool. Just wish wikimedia had a better search engine :-) Jerazol (talk) 21:06, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Sure, I don't really feel very strongly about it either way. Fjell Festning and also to a certain degree, Oscarsborg were in fact in large parts built by the germans during WW2. It may also make sense to re-categorise the images once we're able to identify the locations they were taken. I have to get to bed now, work tomorrow etc. so I won't be doing any more on this before tomorrow, so feel free to arrange it whichever way you see fit :-) Jerazol (talk) 21:39, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

File:Kirsten Flagstad statue Oslo Opera House.jpg[edit]

Hi Manxruler. Unfortunately, I had to delete this photo as a derivative work. There is only noncommercial freedom of panorama in Norway. --Kjetil_r 19:06, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: Crown copyright photos from the Second World War[edit]

Hello! Sorry for the late answer. What I did to make the images larger, was to simply open them in Paint or similar and and just blow them up a little bit and remove the watermark. It actualy worked pretty good! But it's been a while since I uploaded the pictures, and I think the original images used to be larger then what they are now! Best regards Dybdal (talk)

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on . Click here to learn more and vote »

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Dear Manxruler,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

  1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
  2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
  3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

Using your image of Hammerfest Airport[edit]

Hi! I would like to use your image of Hammerfest Airport (in a modified version) as a texture for an object in flightgear, a free flight simulator (-> flightgear.org). Am I allowed to do that? Regards D-ECHO

Hi @Enzyerklopaedie:. As long as you comply with the licensing (attribution, share alike) this and this, there shouldn't be any problems with that. If you'd drop me a link to the finished product, I'd appreciate that. Manxruler (talk) 13:19, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

Bilder[edit]

Hei jeg har lastet opp noen gamle bilder som ikke gikk gjennom kvalitetskontrollen den gangen kanskje du kan hjelpe meg med å sortere og legge til kategorier etc.

Se https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?limit=500&user=Snurre86&title=Special%3AListFiles%2FSnurre86

--Peter Kaino Jensen (talk) 08:25, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm not entirely sure what you would like me to do here. What kind of "quality control" are you referring to? I'm sorry you had a negative experience with the image upload (I'm assuming you are referring to the Upload Wizard, which I never use - the old upload form is still available), but thanks for your donation of photos today. I'm sure someone (probably not me) will sort through them. Have a nice day. Manxruler (talk) 10:12, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
I just assumed you where Norwegian based on all the edits. I talk about old pictures that did not pass my own quality control back in 2009-2010 and there for where never uploaded, but now I decided that they where never going to get improved so might as well upload them (might be useful to someone). I was going to put in some effort categorize and describe the images after uploading them but after the nightmare uploading them I remembered why I left this project so someone else will have to do it or not what ever is decided on. That the old upload form (semi hidden features) is available is really a bad idea in my opinion as it makes people not care about how shitty the rest of the project is. --Peter Kaino Jensen (talk) 10:37, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
Oh, I'm Norwegian. I just never write in Norwegian here. Seeing as I'm only active over at English language Wikipedia, I find it best to keep it all in one language. Have we communicated before? I don't recognise your user name, or seeing your pictures. I'm sorry you're dissatisfied with Wikimedia Commons, but there's not much I can do about that. Best of luck anyway.
