Thanks for uploading File:Proceedings of Third International Conference 1906 on Genetics-Conversazione.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. Thank you.

Yours sincerely, Jarekt (talk) 14:06, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the message; there was a copy-paste error in the license, which I have fixed. Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 17:45, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

I was just browsing some of the wonderful files from CHF that you've uploaded. Thanks Mary — and CHF — for these and all the work you're doing! ragesoss (talk) 16:27, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Autopatrol given[edit]

Commons Autopatrolled.svg

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically sighted. This will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to help users watching Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones. Thank you. Just reviewing the licence on this image, can you provide a link to the permission from the artist (Andrea Polli) please ? LGA talkedits 01:15, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

The license in this case belongs not to the artist but to the institution whose photographer took the photo as a work for hire at the installation's opening. The artist was there and agreed to the photography; the image has been used in other publications (print and online) by the institution. I can check on Monday to see if there is an explicit document on file.

But the artist has a copyright in the work depicted and you need permission from her to release it CC, and more than she was there when the image was taken. LGA talkedits 22:05, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
There's a privacy & confidentiality concern here over making information from the original contract public. Instead, staff will contact Andrea Polli and request a separate permission explicitly for Wikimedia Commons to comply with the Commons requirements. So we're working on it. Where do you advise we send it once we have it? Thanks, Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 00:10, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
She has emailed a permission statement to 19:30, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Bob Skiba.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS ( This also applies if you are the author yourself.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, and Commons:Permission if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own.

Unless the permission information is given, the image may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Túrelio (talk) 14:39, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

The mentioned permission needs to be forwarded to (OTRS). "Press photos" are per se not considered as Commons-compliant. --Túrelio (talk) 14:41, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

No problem, I will arrange for the appropriate OTRS email to be sent in. Do I need to add anything on the page itself to ensure that the OTRS permissions get processed? Thanks, Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 16:39, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
The email has been sent in. Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 02:26, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
