Chip image[edit]

File:World Trade Center 9-11 Active Thermitic Red Grey Chips.png actually has a cc-by-nc license. Unless you have evidence that it's really a cc-by (for Commons) or cc-by-sa (for Wikipedia), it shouldn't be here. Arthur Rubin (talk) (contact me on en-wiki) 08:47, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

Well according to the last sentence of the article: This is an open access article licensed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License (http: // 3.0/) which permits unrestricted, non-commercial use, distribution and reproduction in any medium, provided the work is properly cited.
I'm not sure what exactly this means, but the the only restriction is on commercial use and proper citation. Since wikipedia/wikimedia is non-commercial (or at least I thought so) and I have cited the source of the picture (Bentham open, Harrit et al.), have I not satisfied the requirements of the license?

See Commons:Licensing, noting that "non-commerical use only" is not allowable, per that document. Since Wikipedia allows using all of it under cc-by-sa, it follows that everything added to it, including images, must be cc-by-sa or a less-restrictive license. If you put a {{hangon}} tag on the image, try to contact either the author or publisher to clarify the license, and say what you're doing on the image talk page, you may have 7 days to resolve the issue. Arthur Rubin (talk) (contact me on en-wiki) 09:36, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, that was the Wikipedia method. Commons should have a "hangon" template, but.... May I suggest you use the {{helpme}} template on your talk page, explaining what you want to do. For example:
== Deletion help ==
How do I stop the deletion of [[:File:World Trade Center 9-11 Active Thermitic Red Grey Chips.png‎]]?
Arthur Rubin (talk) (contact me on en-wiki) 09:43, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
I'm afraid Arthur is quite right. On the file page, I changed his template {{Cc-by-nc}} to {{Cc-by-nc-3.0}}, which most specifically corresponds to Harrit et al.'s specified licence. The problem remains.
