Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically sighted. This will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to help users watching Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones. Thank you. Hi Mykola Swarnyk, when you scan or reproduce an existing photo from somebody else, you do not earn own copyright, instead you may violate the copyright of the original photographer. What is the real source of these 4 images? Who is the true photographer? --Túrelio (talk) 16:26, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

User talk:Fastily[edit]

Would you kindly quit monkeying with other people's comments on this talk page? Thanks. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:39, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

"Monkeying" was not my intention, I am just looking for advice how to restore my work, being as volunteer as you probably are. I kindly apologise for inconvenience but erasing requests is not the way to solve a case. Mykola Swarnyk (talk) 06:24, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
You probably think I deleted other users postings on the Fastily talk page? I looked through the history and it seems as I deleted it. But in fact I did`nt. Probably there was something wrong with simultaneous writed messages. My apologies again. I just tried to repost my message which did`nt appeared in the Fastily talk page window. And it was not there for few hours. I thought he was deleting it. Mykola Swarnyk (talk) 07:10, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
One of these two things probably happened: 1) you accidentally edited an old version of the page, or 2) you started editing a page and came back after a few hours and when you got an edit conflict, you copied and pasted from your version over the new version. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 14:55, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for understanding. I am learning from my mistakes. But, in fact, my request about attributing deleted files also was lost. In my opinion deletion was not accurate. Can you help in that matter? Mykola Swarnyk (talk) 18:01, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

Mykola Swarnyk (talk) 04:38, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
Вибачте, що довго не відповідав. Має допомогти категоризація у формі [[Category:Objects by city|Lviv]]. Тобто з ключем сортування (наприклад "Lviv") для певної категорії. Або можна поставити на файл універсальний ключ сортування для всіх категорій {{DEFAULTSORT:Lviv}}.--Сергій (обг.) 21:18, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on . Click here to learn more and vote »

Thanks,

Commons:Photo challenge-translations[edit]

Hello Mykola,
I saw that you did most of the translations for the Commons:Photo challenge page to Ukrainian and wanted to ask if you are still interested in translating texts for this project. If you are, there are several things that could be translated: a) the page itself was just actualised, b) we started to translate the challenge descriptions themselves (so far only with langswitch), and c) I just posted translations to French and English for the watchlist notice (MediaWiki talk:WatchlistNotice - the last entry), where other languages could be added.
Best wishes, --Anna reg (talk) 12:12, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello Mykola,
The challenges for August are ready for translation - if you find the time, here are the links: Hair & Holidays. The general rules which remain the same from month to month are now transferred into two templates - Template:Photo challenge rules and Template:Photo challenge rules restricted (the only difference between the two templates is that the sentence but may have been taken earlier is missing in the restricted one). The templates can also be translated (and corrected if somebody else finds some mistakes ;->).
Best wishes and thanks for your help, --Anna reg (talk) 13:37, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for helping - I just copied your translation of the Template:Photo challenge rules into Template:Photo challenge rules restricted (minus the sentence in brackets). However, you missed the second LangSwitch-sentence on Holidays (the time restriction below the rules-template) - and if you'd like, you could also translate the watchlist notice which will appear on the watchlist pages into Ukrainian. We are preparing that in Helen Online's sandbox (User:HelenOnline/sandbox/Photo challenge template#Next).
You said last month that you'd like to have somebody check your translation (something I also prefer - and absolutely need if I try to translate to French) - do you have somebody to do that or can I help you to look for a user on commons who could help? Just in case I wanted to see if I'm able to find somebody I could suggest asking for help using catscan - and found e.g. Haidamac and NickK as active Ukrainian and English speaking user.
All the best, --Anna reg (talk) 11:49, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
@Anna reg:, which translations would you like me to check? I cannot guarantee I will check them immediately (I am on some sort of wikibreak at the moment), but I should be able to do it in a week or so — NickK (talk) 19:32, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
We are talking about the translations into Ukrainian for the current photo challenges:
Thanks for your interest, --Anna reg (talk) 20:15, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Category redirects[edit]

Hi Mykola, while fixing uncategorized categories I noticed that you are doing localizations or correct spelling errors in a number of categories. I appreciate this, but please allow me a suggestion: If you blank a superseded category (i.e. remove all categories it is attached to), this category will show up in a maintenance list, needing further attention. Instead (and especially if the old category existed for some time and might be linked from other sites) you could set a redirect by putting {{category redirect|name of new category}} on the page ("name of new category" replaced by the actual name). This will point everyone accessing the old category to the new one and is really helpful, because even the Hotcat-Tool recognizes it. Best regards, --Rudolph Buch (talk) 17:33, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Dear Rudolph, thank you for your suggestion. I will definitely try it, it seems the category renaming will consume definitely less time than doing it page-by-page. Best regards, Mykola Swarnyk (talk) 18:29, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, Mykola! --Anna reg (talk) 11:13, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello Mykola,
I have a one word change I forgot to do in Template:Photo challenge rules, as we decided to try to enter new images at the top of the gallery this month. That rule is explained in the third sentence of the checklist (*Submissions must be added to the bottom top of the Entries section below.)- could you please adjust the Ukrainian? Thanks a lot for your help, --Anna reg (talk) 08:57, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Photo challenge translation[edit]

Hello Mykola,
the January themes seem to be decided... we only have one new theme - Outlier, as Bad weather & Household items in use will be continued during January.
And perhaps you can check the watchlist message for January that will be prepared in Helen's sandbox.
Best wishes and a happy new year, --Anna reg (talk) 19:49, 26 December 2014 (UTC)

Photo challenge - February translations[edit]

Hello Mykola Swarnyk,
I just prepared the two February theme pages

and - as February has already begun and the pages are therefore already linked from the Photo challenge-main page, I put <!-- --> around every untranslated language - so if you find the time to do the translation, please don't forget to remove it!
The watchlist messages are once again in preparation in Helen's sandbox, but so far I have mainly actualized the links...
Best wishes, Anna reg (talk) 12:05, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Commons:Photo challenge/2015 - March - Black and White[edit]

Please can you help translate the restriction for the black & white challenge: "The photos must be taken in March 2015 and a maximum of three entries can be submitted per photographer.". Sorry for the late change. Thanks. -- Colin (talk) 10:19, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

I have also amended the description to be clearer: "black & white photography (not a colour photo of a black & white subject)". -- Colin (talk) 10:24, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

I have clarified (with examples) that Commons:Photo challenge/2015 - March - Steps, Stairs and Staircases includes ladders and step stools. -- Colin (talk) 10:28, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
