There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

This message was added automatically by Nikbot, if you need some help about it please read the text above again and follow the links in it, if you still need help ask at the ? Commons:Help desk in any language you like to use. --Nikbot 10:55, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Live CD minus caption.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). This also applies if you are the author yourself.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, and Commons:Permission if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own.

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the OTRS-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Live CD minus caption.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Image linked to destination I have now added the following changes - [a] copyright note to image [b] copyright note within Infobox (destination for image)

I would wlcome further assistance rather than further edits. The person the image depicts has given me permission to use an image. I am endeavouring to confirm with the owner of the image that attribution is appropriate.

You post questions and complaints on various pages. But you fail to read the answer. I think you not care to read any instructions at all. Not even very simple instructions such as File:Licensing_tutorial_en.svg give to you at the upload wizard. You are not allowed to upload someone else photo here and declare it {{attribution}} without the copyright holders written permission. Please, please, read {{Attribution}}, it speaks of free commercial reuse worldwide by anyone, anywhere! Not just Wikipedia! This is a en:free content project, all content must be free to use anywhere, anytime by anyone for any purpose including money making purposes. You can not just go, steal someones photos and declare it free. --Martin H. (talk) 11:52, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
See Commons:Help_desk#Picture_for_upload and answere or ask there because you walk on and search for the next talkpage to write your text there - without carying for any answers. --Martin H. (talk) 11:53, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Image uploading[edit]

I can see that the nature of Wikipedia makes it difficult to provide guidance for this item. However, I would have thought some worked examples might be helpful.

For example, if I wanted to write about a living musician and the only images available were attibutable, would it be acceptable for me to attribute them, with the name of the owner of the image and the date that the image was created (if it is possible to establish that?) My expectation is that once the image has a copyright symbol and that the (online) source has been confirmed, it would then be possible to include the image - since any contravention of the original copyright may only be through inclusion of an improperly-sourced image on the online source site? Or is any other site 'downstream' of the source site also potentially in breach also?

I think what I am asking is 'what is the point of the copyright symbol if I know who the owner is and have found a copy of the image in a place maintained by the owner of the image?' - as this is a worked example of the process I am going through at the moment...N1geD (talk) 17:49, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
