Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 21:48, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
Welcome, Dear Filemover!
[edit]

Hi Nick Number, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
- Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all occurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
- Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
- Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

- Groovy. Many thanks. Nick Number (talk) 23:10, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for fixing my typo at the Boundary Commission pic. I had realised my mistake after it was uploaded and wasn't sure how to fix it. There is one other pic I uploaded with an error that I'm not sure how to fix. This picture File:Highway 18 sunrise near North Portal.jpg is actually Saskatchewan Highway 39, not 18. File tagging File:Battle of Las Guasimas - It's Up To Us Now.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Battle of Las Guasimas - It's Up To Us Now.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Battle of Las Guasimas - It's Up To Us Now.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request. |

- @Peaceray: I don't understand. The video's License field on YouTube shows "Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)", which is the license selected for the upload. Nick Number (talk) 15:33, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
- I have reverted until I can review the license. Peaceray (talk) 15:41, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
- (re: last edit summary) No worries; I appreciate the review, as licensing is complicated and I'd like to know if there's an aspect I missed. I'm restoring this for my own record. Nick Number (talk) 16:35, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Copyright status: File:Nacarid Portal (born 1991) at the Ricardo Palma Book Fair in 2019.jpg
| This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Nacarid Portal (born 1991) at the Ricardo Palma Book Fair in 2019.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{self|cc-zero}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

- @AntiCompositeNumber: I imported this image from Flickr using the button in the Upload Wizard like I have several times in the past. It looks like that didn't bring across the CC BY 2.0 licensing information for some reason. Is there a problem with the wizard, or is this a one-off glitch? Nick Number (talk) 05:54, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
- Flickr recently added support for the 4.0 CC licenses. The Upload Wizard was not designed to handle this change, and has not been fixed yet. Other tools seem to be working fine. There's some more discussion at Commons talk:Upload Wizard#"undefined" appears instead of valid CC-BY license. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 04:15, 29 June 2025 (UTC)

Spreckels Mausoleum
[edit]Well, this is a hell of coincidence. I'd finally gone out to Cypress Lawn today to get some quality photos of the Spreckels Mausoleum, which I had thought were missing from Commons and Wikipedia, and on categorizing them, now see that you did the same thing only yesterday. The biggest difference is that mine were (intentionally) golden hour shots.
Anyway, cheers! Peter G Werner (talk) 06:10, 30 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Peter G Werner: Wow, that really is quite a coincidence, as it's the first time I've taken grave photos in Colma, and probably the last for at least a year. Feel free to replace mine with the better composed and lit ones in articles and Wikidata entries as desired. Also, if you're of a mind to go back out to Cypress Lawn, email me and I can share my Google Maps list of notable graves that I didn't get to. Nick Number (talk) 08:03, 30 November 2025 (UTC)
- That's a good idea. I was hoping to get an image of John D. Spreckels gravesite, but it's not in or near the Spreckels Mausoleum, but in their larger one, and I could not find "Unit 5" before the end of the day. I didn't have a map of the mausoleum and the different units aren't placed in numerical order. Anyway, I'll let you know when I'm planning on going out there again and I'll photograph at least some of them. Peter G Werner (talk) 16:50, 30 November 2025 (UTC)
History of the great Northwest and its men of progress (1901)
[edit]Amazing work at History of the great Northwest and its men of progress (1901), did you crop and label all the images by hand, or come up with some automated process? RAN (talk) 03:23, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ): Thank you for taking notice. My work on images here is all manual. I use GIMP for cropping and cleanup. Nick Number (talk) 03:56, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
- Same for me, I concentrate on the biographies. I crop in GIMP, than run through https://ocr.wmcloud.org/ and then remove line breaks and fix typos and migrate to Wikisource. I am always amazed how much work people do by hand, it is slow, but it adds up. I have been hoping for a few years now that AI would go through Newspapers.com and isolate the images of people, and identify them from the text. No one has done it so far, except Ancestry with yearbooks, which is easier. --RAN (talk) 04:13, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
- I agree that could be one of the better uses of AI, to do collation of disparate media for human review. Nick Number (talk) 16:20, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
