Road shield

Hi, thanks for providing the link to the project on en.wp. Please also provide that information here, as the images you are tagging are used elsewhere. Please also consider orphaning duplicates on all other Wikimedia projects and ensure that you replace the images in galleries here on Commons, as was as taking over current categorisation from images marked duplicate to the image you are replacing it with. I'm afraid I'm asking a lot of you here, but the community will be greatful. Thanks and have fun, Siebrand 21:56, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

own license tag {{vsh60lic}}

Hi, just wondering why you have your own license tag? I hadn't seen that before. Is there not a way to parameterise it so it could work for any user? thanks! Not sure where best to discuss this. Noticed it due to your bot request. ++Lar: t/c 22:10, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Saw your answer. I suggest that it be parameterised and genericised. I would be happy to help you do that if desired ++Lar: t/c 05:01, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
No, I will not parameterize and generalize the template. SPUI's templates are not what you think it should be (parameterized and generalized), so why should mine? Please reply on my talk page. Vishwin60 (talkcontribs) 20:32, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Let's stay threaded on one talk or the other, here is fine. It is my view that SPUI's templates may not necessarily be a good general way to do things so I'm not sure that using them as an example is the best approach. Having your own license seems counter to the spirit of reuse for this site. Perhaps we should seek more opinions on this. I note another admin has moved your template to userspace after I mentioned it on IRC. ++Lar: t/c 21:04, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Lar, on the image upload page, you can only select one license. Commons:Licensing allows multiple licenses for an image, and it does not have anything you said about taking away a license. Look at the license template again, since this change will stay permanent. It won't be changed for eternity. Vishwin60 VCtalkVContribs 23:23, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Right. The license (template) I select from the drop down for most all of my contribs is the one that gives both GFDL and CC-BY. If you want a combination not yet covered, I do see the need to add new templates that do combinations. And even the need to add them to the dropdowns you can select (which an admin can do by modifying the page). But your user specific template would not be in that dropdown so I'm not sure where you are going with that argument. I again think that user specific licenses are, in general, a bad idea, and I plan to do something about SPUI's at some point. Also, you just cannot take away a license, once granted, regardless of what Commons:Licensing may or may not say (that's something that needs fixing too I guess...) ++Lar: t/c 23:38, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Please read my comment at Commons:Administrators. Some files have been reuploaded due to the licensing problem you brought up. For the list of files that I just freshly reuploaded, see Special:Contributions/File Upload Bot (Vishwin60). Vishwin60 VCtalkVContribs 23:37, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
