Ghana

Dear Rberchie, Wikimedia Commons needs more photographs from and about Ghana, and you are doing a great job by uploading your own photographs. However, you are also uploading pictures and photographs made by others. Could I ask you to please (1) add useful categories to these photographs, esp. for all pictures in this category: Category:Pilot Phase (GLAM Ghana) and (2) replace the current "Source" given from "own" to the source used: the book or collection you have taken the picture from. Could you also add the original photographer of the pictures? (If unknown, use the template: Template:unknown photographer.) This might also have implications for the the license given and for usage permission. The owner of the photographs (museum or library) usually doesn't own copyright of the pictures. GLAM project : how to credit institutions

Here is one pretty good example : File:German Stamps, 1 Million Mark and 2 Million Mark.JPG.

• the quite detailed description
• there is an author and there is a source.
• there are categories
• and there is a piece in the licensing area giving more credits to the institution, e.g., This media file is from the National Liberation Museum 1944-1945, donated in the context of a partnership program.

Hi Wikicology all the above images were taken from a school that was established in 1876.With the exception of

• File:Library complex under construction.JPG which is a current building all the others were build over 100 years ago.

Whoever the copyright holder is should be dead and gone now.You seem to have a penchant for deleting peoples work what is the essence of tagging work for deletion after go through stress to put up work.

How many times have you been warned not to upload copyvios to Commons? How many times have I told you that there is no applicable freedom of panorama exception in Ghana?. How many times have you been told that the claimed of "own work" on Wikimedia Commons means work you explicitly created yourself and not the work created by others? If your claimed that the school was established in 1876 is correct, why did you uploaded the images as "own work" when it's clearly not? Can you provide evidence that all the buildings in the school were built in 1875, the same year the university was established and the architect are also dead? This is not always the case! I know of a university that was established decades ago and the university new senate building was built some months ago. Will it be a valid argument to state that the university was built in 1923, so the senate building is therefore in public domain and the architect is dead? BTW....I see that you parade yourself as one of the leaders of Wikimedia Ghana User Group and you lead trainings. Is this what you have been teaching your community? These images were clearly uploaded way after these ones I you just brought and so if there were issues it was because then I did not clearly know the rules on Commons. Mfantsipim was established in 1876 if in Nigeria Colleges established decades ago can have buildings built months ago that is not in Ghana. This is clearly over decades and most of the buildings there are over 70 years apart from the new Library Building which I singled out. I will also appreciate it if you treat issues as it is and not attack my credibility. If we are talking about someone knowing more about rules it should not be you because I do not know anyone who has been more unethical on Wikipedia than you in my whole life as a Wikipedian and that is how come you have been blocked indefinitely for multiple violations.I don't parade myself as a leader of the Usergroup as you did in the past, created articles about you and claimed yo were a lecturer all in the bid to seek attention and recognition and to be an administrator.And if you care to know I do not do trainings on Commons.--Rberchie (talk) 17:54, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello Didym thanks for your concerns and I really take them in good faith. I had to send some of the pictures to my phone for mobile uploads via Whatsapp so in the process I lost the metadata. I will however work on the ones I can and help clean others with issues like authorship.

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2016 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eleventh edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2016) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 20 April 2017, 23:59:59 UTC.
