Hello, Sammy pompon!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Gracias y ¡buenas contribuciones! Platonides (talk) 17:54, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

WWII upload[edit]

Hi Sammy pompon. Please be careful choosing image titles, you inadvertently uploaded a different file to File:WWII.png that overwrote the map, which is used on dozens of projects. I fixed it, so no worries. Parsecboy (talk) 21:49, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

File:Forms of government.svg[edit]

Hola! Gracias. Un cordial saludo! Flag of Uruguay.svg MauriManya (talk) 16:10, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Gracias por actualizarlo! Flag of Uruguay.svg MauriManya (talk) 18:01, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Hola. Gracias. Un cordial saludo. Flag of Uruguay.svg MauriManya (talk) 02:35, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
Flag of Uruguay.svg MauriManya (talk) 21:35, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
Buenas!
Sri Lanka debe cambiarse a color azul (República presidencial). Mongolia debe cambiarse a color naranja (República parlamentaria).
  • En Europa: Bosnia y Herzegovina y San Marino, deben cambiarse a color naranja (Repúblicas parlamentarias). Andorra debe cambiarse a rojo (Monarquía constitucional).
Gracias! Flag of Uruguay.svg MauriManya (talk) 22:00, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
Flag of Uruguay.svg MauriManya (talk) 16:30, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Hola! Saludos! Flag of Uruguay.svg MauriManya (talk) 02:41, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Gracias por tu ayuda! MauriManya (talk) 01:21, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
Saludos! Flag of Uruguay.svg MauriManya (talk) 21:10, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
Gracias de nuevo! MauriManya (talk) 22:10, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

Saludos! Flag of Uruguay.svg MauriManya (talk) 15:10, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Nuevamente, gracias! Flag of Uruguay.svg MauriManya (talk) 23:00, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Hola! Saludos! Flag of Uruguay.svg MauriManya (talk) 01:50, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Buenas! Espero puedas modificarlo. Saludos! Flag of Uruguay.svg MauriManya (talk) 23:20, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

File:Insurgency Maghreb.png[edit]

Hola! Espero puedas hacerlo. Gracias y saludos! MauriManya (talk) 19:40, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Hola. Ahora veo que lo han modificado. Gracias igual por tu respuesta. Saludos! MauriManya (talk) 20:50, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

File:Map-Hispanophone World.png[edit]

Hola! Espero puedas agregarlo. Gracias y un cordial saludo! MauriManya (talk) 22:30, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Hola!

MauriManya (talk) 21:41, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

MauriManya (talk) 13:50, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Portugal[edit]

Could you change the colour of Portugal in the following maps: to yellow in File:Forms of government.svg and to grey in File:Form of government parliamentary.png? It is located in South-Western Europe, and north-west of Morocco. Thank you. B.Lameira (talk) 02:09, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

I noticed you are Spanish and you have knowledge of Portuguese, but that knowledge is only advance or is it near-native, like my own knowledge of English? B.Lameira (talk) 02:17, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

File:War of the Sixth Coalition 1812.svg[edit]

Pay attention to licensing Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.

File:War of the Sixth Coalition 1812.svg seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please verify that you applied the correct license tag for this file.

If you believe this file has the correct license, please explain why on the file description page.

The reason given by the user who added this tag is: File is a derivative work of File:First French Empire 1812.svg, which is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported licence. However, supplied licence and lack of attribution is incompatible with that license.

Wiki Loves Monuments Spain 2016 is coming!

Dear Sammy pompon,

As every year, Wiki Loves Monuments in Spain, an international photographic contest about cultural heritage in the Spanish territory, will start on next September 1st. On behalf of the Wikipedia community and Wikimedia España (WM-ES), and as a participant in former editions of the event, or in other photographic contests organized by WM-ES, we'd like to encourage you to participate in the 2016 edition. We do know that you've been keen on contributing your work to the free knowledge in the past and therefore believe that you'll be glad to help us again.

We want to inform you about a substantial change in the rules of the contest: this year only images of monuments or municipalities without previous photograph in Wikimedia Commons are accepted. To facilitate hunting monuments and municipalities without a free image, we have prepared a set of specific lists, which can be checked in the contest websites: wikilov.es/monuments or wikilm.es

If you have comments, questions or suggestions about the contest, they are more than welcome. You can leave them here.

We look forward to your free images!

Sincerely,
The team of Wiki Loves Monuments edition in Spain
