An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...

Shell Kinney, congratulations! You now have administrator rights on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard an it subpages), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care. Have a look at the list of Gadgets (on the bottom there are the ones specifically for admins – however, for example the UserMessages are very helpful too).

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons-lr webchat on irc.freenode.net. There is also a channel for Commons admins, which may be useful for more sensitive topics, or coordination among administrators: #wikimedia-commons-admin webchat.

You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading. You can find the admin backlog overview at COM:AB.

Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references.

Kubadabad Palace tile (13th century)

Hello Kinney! We had been in contact through e-mail for some Category: Akyaka and Category: Dikili pictures. I have a question. Do you think it would be worth tranferring the image Kubadabad Palace tile (13th century) in English wikipedia to Wikimedia Commons under PD-Art, since it is a faithful and non-artistic image of a 13th century tile. A transfer would voucher its use for in a much wider media instead of just English wikipedia. The uploader there apparently stopped editing which is why I am asking you the question. Cretanforever (talk) 20:48, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

That looks like it would qualify to me. The tile is 2D, there really doesn't appear to be artistic lighting and the tile seems to be shot straight on - all that should make it eligible for the PD-Art tag. Shell babelfish 14:54, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
A move request is added now Kinney. Thank you. But I have another question regarding some other files for which move requests are also added. These are: en:File:Muğla Konakaltı Hanı.jpg - en:File:MuğlaSaatKulesi.jpg - en:File:Muğla Hisar dağı etekler.jpg - en:File:Ege uni logo.png and en:File:SCT.gif. Some of these file names have characters specific to Turkish, which may create difficulties for their use for users outside Turkey. What should be done to remove these? File a rename request once they are moved to Commons? Cretanforever (talk) 08:29, 30 January 2010 (UTC) ‎

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Ok, that's a bit odd because I know I selected the license. Maybe its something to do with me using Chrome again :P Ah well, I've corrected it; glad we've got this bot :) Shell -babelfish 20:04, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

And some other photosubmissions. Please add an author, the license requires the reuser to attribute the author or copyright holder in the way the copyright holder specified, without an author this isnt possible. The OTRS isnt a reference for anyone without OTRS access. --Martin H. (talk) 18:34, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out; I believe I copied the form from somewhere, but you'd think common sense would have told me that the author field pointing to a close system wouldn't help. I'll take a look through any others I've done and correct them as well. Shell babelfish 23:27, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Commons:Picture of the Year

Hi Shell, Need your help on Commons:Picture of the Year, as i wish to check out the pictures & Archives of all the images, which can be viewed/downloaded from here or here. But problem is that links are not working. Please help.(  Abu Torsam  19:43, 8 August 2010 (UTC))

Unfortunately I really don't know much about the archives or how they are stored. I noticed that someone mentioned this on the talk page several months ago and the downloads haven't been fixed. My understanding is that the links point to a server that no longer exists, which may mean that the files weren't moved over to the new one. Shell babelfish 20:11, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Not going to keep email cause that's unfair!

Really it's not fair if I keep doing that, it ain't your fault. But the wikietiquate thread on wikipedia is the prime example of what has happened to me. Look at what Zombie accused. Calgery kid of. Calgery hasn't been abuse nor incivil. In fact Zombie has with false accusations. Thus Calgery reacts. This is what has happened to me and will contiue to happen until wikipedia sorts its self out and stops being over sensitive and a nanny state. This is a serious issue which I would like to address but never will whilst this attitude continues. Regards. Strange I can't sign this WTF. KnowIG

I'm guessing this is about your unblock request for the English Wikipedia? I believe there was going to be a discussion started on the Administrator's Noticeboard to discuss the block and under what circumstances it could be lifted. Shell babelfish 01:08, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

deletion of image file from Gaudi page

Hi Shell

please could you explain why you deleted the image file from the Gaudi(musician) page stating breach of copyright when it was not in breach of copyright - it is owned by the artist and was put there by his management under a commons license.

i look forward to hearing from you

kind regards

Hi Shell Kinney, as you are an admin, would you mind to add to your userpage either the admin-babelbox or the template {{user admin}}? Thanks. --Túrelio (talk) 21:48, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Sure. Added something. Shell babelfish 03:22, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
As your userbox did not automatically put your userpage into cat Commons administrators, I took the liberty to do that manually. Hope that's o.k. for you. --Túrelio (talk) 06:52, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

File:AFlagforIraq2.svg

Commons-emblem-issue.svg File:AFlagforIraq2.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Flag map of Romania.svg
Hi! I created the Commons:WikiProject Romania as a sister project to the multilingual WP:ROMANIA versions (currently en, fr, ro and ru) to better organize, categorize and improve the quality of media and galleries related to Romania and the Romanians. From your contributions, I think you might be interested and maybe you wish to join and support the project. Your input is welcomed! Thanks and best regards!
