Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.

I don't see what the problem is here.

I am the author of this photo and I own all the copyrights and evidence. On my profile I have clearly written what my real name is and what my artistic name is. As for this photo, it has been under the CC BY 2.0 license from the very beginning and the license has never been changed. It's just that some of my photos are clearly defined by the license and do not differ on other platforms, which can be clearly seen in this example. This is humilating for me as an author. How can it seem to someone that I am downloading photos and posting them as my own work? All the photos that I have posted and that I am posting are my own work. I want the administrators to take my message into account and for everyine to understand that I am a serious photographer. Attribution and images first published elsewhere

Sourcing and attribution are important on Commons, to make licensing valid. Not only must these be valid, but they must be seen to be valid, so that other editors can easily verify this. The big problem is that if an editor runs into such an issue some years after upload it might then be too late to clarify things, and content ends up deleted needlessly, just because it's not obvious that it's valid.

If you publish a work elsewhere first, we can have a problem with this. Particularly if you then upload it here as 'own work', without linking back to the original source. It's not clear on first looking at it that this is the same source under two identities, so it can look like a copyvio instead, a Commons editor uploading 'stuff they found on the web' (This happens a lot).

Can I ask you please to try and clarify this a bit, to hopefully avoid this happening in the future. I note that you identify your real name on your user page and tie it to your anonymous account name here, that's a great help. Maybe it's worth sending an email to COM:VRT to put a record of this in the filing system for this too? But if you're uploading content from your website to Commons, maybe it's clearest to treat that as web content independent of your Commons account, and file it the same way as if I, or another editor, were doing the upload? Give it the web source and the web licence, and thus a simple paper trail?

Our policy is a little vague here. Some editors (and deletionist admins) would demand that each upload gets ticketed by COM:VRT. That's a waste of effort for everyone. But we have seen case before where an 'enthusiastic' admin will demand this in the future, sometimes after an editor has even died or stopped editing for a few years, and then there's no way past it, so everything just ends up getting deleted. We do really need to try and pre-empt this.

Maybe, if you're amenable, setting the name for uploads to be something like [[User:Shixart1985|Nenad Stojković]] or using an explicit attribution string in the Creative Commons licence tag,
{{Cc-by-2.0 |Nenad Stojković / Shixart1985 @ Wikimedia Commons}}
would be an easy way to make things clearer?

Hello. I am the original photographer and copyright holder of this image.

This is my own work. I have the original files, including the original metadata (EXIF), and I can provide evidence of authorship if necessary.

Unfortunately, I have found on several occasions that third parties have uploaded my photographs to stock websites without my authorization.

I also maintain an official website where I publish my work, and I am happy to provide additional evidence if required.
