Thanks for uploading File:ЦДІАК 1167-1-255 Метрична книга єврейської громади м-ка Коростишів про народження 1876.pdf. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{self|cc-zero}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

If you want to delete a file, just put the {{speedy}} template inside, for example: {{speedy|Original uploader's request: broken file}}. This file seems to be broken, but I think it isn't true: sometimes Commors servers are very crowded, so the file need a day or three to be properly rendered again. Have a nice day :) Wieralee (talk) 12:13, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

This file can't be renamed. There is an error: "API request failed (filename-toolong): Filenames may not be longer than 240 bytes." Wieralee (talk) 09:08, 29 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Registration books for Khmelnytskyi Oblast

[edit]

Hi Smaxims,

I noticed that you are uploading the collection of registration books for Khmelnytskyi Oblast. I am looking for the book for the births in 1921 in Varivtsi (Варівці), but so far I could only find the one for the deaths (here).

Do you have the book for 1921 births for Varivtsi in your collection (or do you have any information about it)? Thanks in advance for your help. 2.39.143.205 21:20, 14 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Not currently, I also cannot say if it exists, have to check with the archive Smaxims (talk) 09:52, 15 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

This is a deletion request for the community to discuss whether the nominated page should be kept or deleted. Please voice your opinion in the linked request above. Thank you very much!

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Pay attention to copyright
File:ДАЗпО Р-5593-13-1075 Книга реєстрації актів громадянського стану про смерть (1947).pdf has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

This file is a civil registry book of deaths from 1947. Such registry books are official administrative documents and are not subject to copyright protection under Ukrainian law , nor under U.S. law as government edicts . It is not a creative work; therefore the correct licensing is Template:PD‑Ukraine together with
This file is in the public domain because it is a mere mechanical scan or photocopy of a public domain original, or – from the available evidence – is so similar to such a scan or photocopy that no copyright protection can be expected to arise. The original itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
Public domain
The copyright situation of this work is theoretically uncertain, because in the country of origin copyright lasts 70 years after the death of the author, and the date of the author's death is unknown. However, the date of creation of the work was over 120 years ago, and it is thus a reasonable assumption that the copyright has expired (see here for the community discussion). Do not use this template if the date of death of the author is known.

This work is in the public domain in the United States because it was published (or registered with the U.S. Copyright Office) before January 1, 1931.

This file has been identified as being free of known restrictions under copyright law, including all related and neighboring rights.

This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag.

Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag.

. Tens of thousands of similar registry books have been accepted on Commons with these tags. I kindly ask to remove the copyvio tag and withdraw the speedy deletion. Smaxims (talk) 09:49, 18 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Why delete the files instead of giving me the opportunity to correct the license? Can these files now be restored? Smaxims (talk) 10:00, 19 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2024 voting is open!

[edit]

Dear Wikimedian,

You are receiving this message because we noticed that you previously voted in the Picture of the Year contest. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

In this second and final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2024.

Round 2 will end at UTC.

Click here to vote now! If you have already voted for Round 2, please ignore this message.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Autopatrolled?

[edit]

I've seen a lot of your files in Special:NewFiles for quite a while, and I haven't identified any problems with any of them, nor do I see any recent copyright violations or DR'd files you have uploaded. Would you maybe be willing to consider applying for autopatrol rights, that way you can upload without having to worry about the patrolling process? JJPMaster (she/they) 16:31, 8 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Why not? What should I do for it? Smaxims (talk) 08:11, 9 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you wish to make this request, do so at Commons:Requests for rights § Autopatrol. JJPMaster (she/they) 15:27, 9 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Autopatrol given

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Abzeronow (talk) 04:06, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
