Kategorien von Postkarten

Hallo Stefan,

wir hatten uns hier schon mal kurz über die Kategorisierung der vielen Postkarten ausgetauscht. Ich habe gesehen, dass Du z.B. hier die spezifischere Kategorie entfernt und die allgemeinere eingesetzt hast. Das habe ich rückgängig gemacht. Du hattest die (nehme ich an) entfernt, weil die Kategorie rot war (also noch nicht existierte). Da die Kategorie aber durchaus Sinn macht, sollte sie stattdessen lieber neu angelegt werden. Das habe ich jetzt mal für diese nachgeholt, würde Dich aber bitten die fehlenden Kategorien ggf. selbst anzulegen, statt sie durch die übergeordneten zu ersetzen.

@N8eule78: Ich lege die Kategorien nur an, wenn mindestens 3 Postkarten dort einsortiert sind. Alle anderen werden in die höhere Kategorie überführt. Ich glaub mal irgendwo diese Zahl 3 gelesen zu haben. Macht ja auch keinen Sinn wegen einer oder zwei Karten gleich eine neue Kategorie anzulegen. Siehst du das anders? Ich arbeite gerade Commons:Brück & Sohn/List of categories ab und bin gerade bei "1922 postcards ..." angelangt. Prinzipiell stimme ich Dir zu, dass Kategorien mit wenigen Dateien (oder gar nur einer) eigentlich vermieden werden sollten. Andererseits, finde ich, dass solche Kategorien, die Teil einer Systematik sind, durchaus auch angelegt werden sollten, wenn sie (zumindest vorerst) nur wenige oder auch mal nur eine Datei enthalten. Eine Regel zur Mindestanzahl habe zumindest auf die Schnelle auch nicht gefunden. Bei der deutschen Wikipedia gibt es dazu eine Regelung, die meiner Meinung nach entsprechend auch hier angewendet werden kann: "Hat sich dagegen eine geschlossene Systematik etabliert, die eine übergreifende Navigation in mehreren gleichartigen Kategorien ermöglicht, können selbst kleinste Kategorien für mehr Übersicht sorgen. Hier ist vor allem darauf zu achten, dass die Systematik als Ganzes genügend Artikel aufweist." (Gesamtzusammenhang hier). Wenn das aber auf Commons anders gelebt werden sollte, kann ich damit auch leben. Ich weiß nicht, ob das schon mal irgendwo diskutiert wurde.

@Lotje: In this image is a coordinate. I have a script, that read this coordinate in uncategorized images and ask openstreetmap.org Nominattim for this coordinate. With this info the script found in Wikidata for right commons-category. This coordinate is located in West Kazakhstan Province. Maybe the coordinate is wrong. -- sk (talk) 12:18, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

Gerze County?

@Geographyinitiative: . I have a script, that look only for the coordinates of the images with no categories (Category:Media with geo-coordinates needing categories). Then it check this coordinate with OSM and Wikidata and get the right category for this image on commons. The result looks like this: User:Stefan_Kühn/Test and I set than the categories with the tool cat-a-lot. I think the coordinate in this image is wrong. -- sk (talk) 04:09, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

da hab ich gestern schon begonnen aufzuräumen. hab grad Fotos vom Kyffhäuserdenkmal hochgeladen. da muss auch mal... :-( überall baustellen

das mit der weltpremiere hab ich schon gelesen. ich werde es versuchen.

Fixing uncategorized images based on geocode

Appreciate your help at fixing {{Uncategorized}} images, but please exercise a bit more caution. While coordinates can often help identify the location, a manual check is essential to ensure that it does not contradict information plainly available in the file description or inferable from the image. I've fixed two images where you incorrectly added Category:Thousand Oaks, California: 1) File:Leone healing garden.jpg is in American Samoa, it says so right on the description; 2) File:Deszo Grosz.jpg is an old photo which obviously wasn't taken in Thousand Oaks (it might have been digitized there, but that's not relevant). -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 03:30, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

@King of Hearts: At the moment I have stop my activity at fixing uncategorized images. I have categorized over 40.000 image by using a script which check the coordinate on OpenstreetMap and use this information in Wikidata to find the category on commons. The output was like this page: User:Stefan_Kühn/Test. Then I use the tool cat-a-lot to add the category manualy. At the moment I have only 3 problems like your both files. It is a realy good way to categories so many images in a short time. I will start the procedure again, if I have finish the programing of a bot for this work. Then I will add also a comment at the version history like: "This category is gernerated by using the coordinat with OSM and Wikidata." Also I can add the "Human Control"-Template in every image. - But I think we need this and this false-sorting is a very low percent part of all images. At the moment we have over 10.000 images only from 2020 with coordinates and no category. We have not the manpower to categories this images by hand. -- sk (talk) 16:18, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

Hallo Stefan, wenn du etwas ergänzt, dann überleg bitte, ob dass sinnvoll ist. Diese Fotografie ist keine Postkarte, sondern nur eine Grundlage für eine Postkarte. Die entsprechende Postkarte war mit dieser Fotografie als andere Version gekoppelt. Und mit Metz hat das gar nichts zu tun. Gruß --Mewa767 (talk) 07:37, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

@Mewa767: Danke für den Hinweis. Da ist mir ein Fehler bei der Kategorisierung unterlaufen. Normalerweise schaue ich immer genau, ob es als Postkarte zu identifizieren ist oder ob es eine Fotografie ist. Beste Grüße -- sk (talk) 08:28, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

Technikfrage

Hallo Stefan, seit kurzer Zeit hat sich mein Hochladeformular verändert (vereinfacht). Besonders ungünstig ist der Umstand, dass keine Vorschaufunktion verfügbar mehr ist. Ich habe in den globalen Einstellungen die Vorschau explizit mit einem Häkchen versehen - trotzdem gibt es sie nicht. Kennst Du die Ursache und kannst mit einem Hinweis weiterhelfen? @Lysippos: Ok, das ist der alte Weg des Hochladens. Ich würde dir empfehlen, dich mal mit dem Hochlade-Assistenten zu beschäftigen. Das ist der modernste Weg Dateien nach Commons hochzuladen und der wird auch gut gepflegt. Ich weiß nicht, ob durch irgendeine Software-Umstellung der ältere Weg jetzt nicht mehr so funktioniert wie früher. Gibt es eine Grund warum du den Assistenten nicht benutzt? --sk (talk) 05:15, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

Danke Stefan für den Hinweis auf die mögliche Ursache. Ich hatte den anderen Weg gelegentlich wahrgenommen, aber keinen Grund gesehen, ihn zu verwenden. Wenn alles funktioniert, sucht man keine Alternative. Weil dieser (neue) Assistent mit Bildmotiven gestaltet ist, habe ich das als ein Werkzeug für Einsteiger empfunden und mich nicht weiter damit beschäftigt. Schön am "alten" Assistenten war die Möglichkeit, weitere Sprachen durch Klick am linken Rand bei der Bildbeschreibung einzufügen und überhaupt alles Notwendige auf einen Blick ohne Klickabfolge zu haben. Dessen Usability empfinde ich nicht als wesentliche Verbesserung - schade, kein Fortschritt für den eingearbeiteten Bediener. Grüße --Lysippos (talk) 09:27, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

@Lysippos: Ja der Assistent hat seine Schwächen, aber er bietet auch eine Reihe von Vorteilen. Wenn du mehrere Bilder mit identischer Schreibweise und gleichen Kategorien hochladen willst, dann kann man dort die Metadaten kopieren. Einfach im ersten Bild eingeben und dann kopieren drücken. Außerdem zwingt er zu mehr Ordentlichkeit bei den Metadaten. Und zu guter Letzt versucht er die Leute noch zu bitten für strukturierte Daten (SDC) einzugeben. Die SDC werden aus meiner Sicht auf lange Sicht die Kategorien in Commons sicherlich ablösen. - Wenn du nicht mit dem Assistenten zurecht kommst, dann kannst du dir auch mal andere Werkzeuge anschauen.
