Interwiki on template Authority control[edit]

Hello Steinsplitter, would you consider adding the interwikis from Wikidata even through the template {{Authority control}} as well as it happens now with {{On Wikidata}}? This way we could use either according whether there are data for authority control or less on the Wikidata item, and still having the interlinks in automatic way. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 12:58, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi Sergio, to be honest: I am not familiar with the wikidata stuff. Likely @Jmabel: can help? :) --Steinsplitter (talk) 13:16, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Who knows? Let's ask them. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 13:38, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
I was pinged on my page. While I know a bit about Wikidata, I don't know a thing about "Authority control". But also, the request here is pretty unclear to me; I suggest that you'd do well to state exactly what it is that you want to have happen before trying to find someone to do it. - Jmabel ! talk 14:40, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Hello Jmabel, the matter is pretty simple, but I don't know the structure of templates on WikiCommons so I prefer not to touch them especially if they are widespread. Briefly, {{On Wikidata}} imports on Commons a list of wikilinks for the item on Wikidata. {{Authority control}} which is used alternatively to {{On Wikidata}} in those case whether the topic of a given category has on its Wikidata item some information like VIAF, LCCN and so on, adds the Wikidata item but not the wikilinks to the subject. Thus I wondered whether it was possible to add that feature to {{Authority control}} either. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 21:17, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Sorry: more advanced templating than I've done, and while I've done stuff on Wikidata, I've never accessed Wikidata templates data from elsewhere. I suggest that you consult whoever did this in {{On Wikidata}} and see if they can help out with {{Authority control}}. - Jmabel ! talk 23:24, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Ok Jmabel, thanks! -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 12:24, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello how are you?, I upload this two file: here and here, can you chick it if it has issues or problems?. Thank you and have a nice day.--Jobas (talk) 03:36, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi :), Done. But nc is not allowed (file 1). --Steinsplitter (talk) 12:51, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
Thank you. Have a nice day.--Jobas (talk) 13:20, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Schönes WE! Gruß, --Achim (talk) 18:47, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

„Уики обича паметниците 2016“ започва! :)[edit]

Hi Steinsplitter, Your bot seems to forget about rotate requests. Category:Images requiring rotation by bot contains well over 600 images at the moment. Can you look into it? Thanks. Lymantria (talk) 10:19, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Lymantria:, Thanks for reporting. Api is not responding sometimes, likely related to phab:T146451. --Steinsplitter (talk) 11:42, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. So it may take a while... Lymantria (talk) 14:08, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Kabylie, Algeria. ca. 1905 - 1920, The second file is mention under Famille chrétienne de Grande Kabylie, I guss there is no problems with these two file since it old, but i want to be sure beofre.--Jobas (talk) 06:16, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

@Jobas: Hi, Most files (all on that page as far i can see) are not licensed under a free license thus they can't be uploaded. Very old ones might be {{pd-old}}. --Steinsplitter (talk) 06:47, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
Thank you, But these files i mentioned as this one from 1905 - 1920, it can be upload?.--Jobas (talk) 06:16, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
The files must be PD in both source country and the US. See Commons:Copyright tags#United_States and en:List of countries' copyright lengths. --Steinsplitter (talk) 06:53, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
The files are from Algeria, The file here citted Two Christian sisters. Kabylie, Algeria. ca. 1905 - 1920 || Vintage postcard; publisher Mission of the White Fathers, the other file do not mention the year is only mention Famille chrétienne de Grande Kabylie, but the picture is very old more than 70 year. so they may be fit under {{pd-old}}?. sorry for asking alot of question.--Jobas (talk) 06:16, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
I don't have a account on pinterest therefore i can't view singe files. It might be {{PD-Algeria-photo-except}} (but i am not a specialist in algerian copyright law). --Steinsplitter (talk) 07:25, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

Thank you, That's the file and here, i think here is possibile to see it.--Jobas (talk) 06:16, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

Unreviewed files from Bollywood Hungama[edit]

I would like to help with the aformentionned backlog, but I would like to understand what is meant by :

What are the steps to make sure is is not such a reproduction, except obvious common sense and a look trough Google Images?

Hallo Steinsplitter,

CommonsDelinker misbehaving again[edit]

Hi Steinsplitter... I hope you are well. CommonsDelinker is editing pages it shouldn't again. Would you please consider removing the entire Commons namespace from it? Cheers, Storkk (talk) 09:16, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Noted - after the delinquent patches are stable. But first i have still to fix the global replace username issue (and i don't know how to, need Magnus for that - waiting for reply). --Steinsplitter (talk) 18:21, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Rotate error![edit]

File:Vranové 2.díl - kříž proti čp. 131 (1).jpg contained {{rotate|90}} request but SteinsplitterBot did ° (EXIF-Orientation set from 6 to 1, rotated 180°) instead. --ŠJů (talk) 01:28, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

File:Vranové 2.díl - kříž proti čp. 131 (2).jpg is the same case. --ŠJů (talk) 01:31, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

@ŠJů: This is how MediaWiki rotates files based on EXIF automatically. If you open the files (both) in the Browser itself you will see that the files has been rotated correctly. --Steinsplitter (talk) 10:51, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
@Steinsplitter: Regrettably, 90° is not 180°. The two images were requested to be rotated 90° and were rotated incorrectly 180°. That's why they need 270° rotation now to correct the error. The wrong rotation is visible at the image pages as well as in the Gadget-GallerySlideshow browser. --ŠJů (talk) 18:01, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
@ŠJů: You have to calculate the exif-orientation. If the exif-orientation (set by the cam) is wrong/or parsed wrong by mediawiki, the rotation won't be correct. And it is, unfortunately, impossible to fix (bot would require eyes).
For example: Image rotated by 90° and EXIF-Orientation (set in the exif) set from 6 to 1 = 180° in total. Ignoring the exif-orientation would cause that files with correct orientation are getting rotated wrong - it is tricky. And it is technically impossible to fix, the bot would require eyes O_O. :-( --Steinsplitter (talk) 18:29, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
What I can see is that the photos were 90° wrong, they have been requested to be rotated 90°, but they were rotated 180° and that's why they are wrong again. If the bot had followed the request exactly, the images would be correct now. Simply said, 180° is surely not 90°, independently on the original EXIF-Orientation number. The uploader had eyes O_O when put the 90° request and I haev yes O_O when i request 270° to correct the error. The bot needs not eyes, the bott needs to fulfil the request. --ŠJů (talk) 18:39, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
@ŠJů: Sorry, it has been rotated as requested. It is a bug in media wiki, i filed it as for now. Open the file in RAW in your browser (not with a gallery tool) and you will see it is completely different from the file hosted here (test it with the first file version).
Which means: In fact the file does not require a rotation at all, mediawiki is rotating it wrong. When opening it in fullscreen it is rotated yet. --Steinsplitter (talk) 18:44, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
And this one is likely the cause: --Steinsplitter (talk) 18:52, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

--Atamari (talk) 12:57, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

@Atamari: Habe ihn Angesprochen. --Steinsplitter (talk) 16:12, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Rotation errors[edit]

Hello Steinsplitter.

A few images are not rotated as I requested. This might be because the EXIF-Orientation was set from 6 to 1, rotated 180° at the same time. I don't know how to handle that. Could you try to rotate these yourself? All 4 should be shown in portait.

Thanks. HenkvD (talk) 18:38, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Just request rotation again. After has been merged no rotation is needed . --Steinsplitter (talk) 18:42, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
When Should I request it again? I don't understand gerrit. HenkvD (talk) 18:45, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
User:Lymantria has requested the rotate again. Your bot just has removed the request with the remark "(rotated)", but no change to the image was made. Please check again. HenkvD (talk) 18:56, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
HenkvD, since the issue has been solve in MeidaWiki itself a revert seems enough for now. i did so. :-) --Steinsplitter (talk) 12:30, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, that solved it. HenkvD (talk) 06:20, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

MediaWiki edit proposal[edit]

Hey there, Splitter! I see you marked my edit proposal at the MediaWiki site regarding changing the standardized text for image files as "done", but it doesn't appear that the proposed change was actually made to the text... Am I missing something? (wouldn't be the first time). Please do let me know. THANKS! KDS4444 (talk) 22:23, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi, The change just affects Wikimedia Commons english language interface. To change it on all wikis a request on phabricator is needed. --Steinsplitter (talk) 10:30, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
Hmm.... I am only looking at the English language interface. For example, the Susan Hauptman: I scroll to the bottom, and the metadata section still has the old text about the timestamp possibly being "completely wrong". Are you seeing something else? Does the updated text only get applied to new uploads? KDS4444 (talk) 23:01, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
The same text as on MediaWiki:Metadata-help. Do we have to change something else on the MW page (i don't understand your comment at the talk)? --Steinsplitter (talk) 12:29, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
My proposed text went like this: "This file contains additional information such as Exif metadata which may have been added by the digital camera, scanner, or software program used to create or digitize it. If the file has been modified from its original state, some details such as the timestamp may not fully reflect those of the original file." (as available here). The current text reads, "This file contains additional information such as Exif metadata which may have been added by the digital camera, scanner, or software program used to create or digitize it. If the file has been modified from its original state, some details such as the timestamp may not fully reflect those of the original file. The timestamp is only as accurate as the clock in the camera, and it may be completely wrong." Let me know if there is still some confusion about this. Thanks! KDS4444 (talk) 00:56, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
@KDS4444: Sorry, but i don't get what you want to change exactly. Please post the test to a /Sandbox so that i can copy&paste it. --Steinsplitter (talk) 08:47, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
See my /Sandbox section "Revised text for MediaWiki template". The exact text is located in this section. Thanks! KDS4444 (talk) 16:08, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
{{[[:This file contains additional information, probably added from the digital camera or scanner used to create or digitize it.

If the file has been modified from its original state, some details such as the timestamp may not fully reflect those of the original file. @Steinsplitter:The text is now very close to what I had proposed. All that now needs to be done is the final sentence with the wording "completely wrong" needs to be removed. Almost there! Remove the final sentence, and I will finally drop the matter. Thank you!!! KDS4444 (talk) 04:38, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Function "to rotate" in the bot[edit]

The bot is out control when it rotates a imagen. Look File:Nazrul Citizenship Certificate.jpg. --Metrónomo's truth of the day: "That was also done by the president" not an excuse. 03:52, 14 October 2016 (UTC)

Please use the rotate link, the bot don't know a degree= parameter with whitespaces. --Steinsplitter (talk) 10:38, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
I did not do it, was another user. The bot does not cover all the ways in which the template can be used and enters an endless loop, that's not a problem of users, but a bot programming error. While it is not corrected, it will happen. --Metrónomo's truth of the day: "That was also done by the president" not an excuse. 18:55, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
Will fix it tomorrow. --Steinsplitter (talk) 19:06, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
