Effeietsanders (talk) 11:59, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Hoi Trijnstel,
Effeietsanders (talk) 12:03, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Trijnstel (talk) 21:31, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Effeietsanders (talk) 23:43, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
:-) Trijnstel (talk) 11:37, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Magog the Ogre (talk) 21:41, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Magog the Ogre. I moved the image (en:File:Sigismund.jpg) to Commons, because it's in the public domain and I didn't notice it has no source. As I didn't upload the original image in 2005, it's very hard for me to find the source. It was uploaded here and added in 2007 on The Royal Forums, so that can't be the original source. It's probably from the official site of Preussen, see here and here, because the site says "© 2003 Haus Hohenzollern". What do you advice me to do? Kind regards, Trijnstel (talk) 22:03, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Yes; that source looks legitimate enough to me. Magog the Ogre (talk) 23:37, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Wow, that was fast. Thank you! Trijnstel (talk) 09:52, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

question concerning procedure of creating pages on wiki

hello, this is Ali form India I'm a new user and i don't know how to create and make page the world watch it. i tried much by reading wiki procedure but i always found my pages deleted. could u pls help me out of this one.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aurumali (talk • contribs) 05:06, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Ali/Aurumali. First of all, welcome to Commons! As you may have noticed, this is Commons and here you can upload images, photos, graphics and so fort. Therefore I nominated Talk:Science 1 for speedy deletion (which is deleted now), because an essay doesn't belong on the talk page nor everywhere else. You were probably looking for Wikipedia, because that's the place for text and articles. Although I must add that essays are not allowed there also. The articles must be relevant for an encyclopaedia and written as such. See for more information en:Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. If you have more questions, feel free to ask them to me. Kind regards, Trijnstel (talk) 12:37, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Redundant right

Thank you for raising this issue. I removed my patroller right. mickit 18:38, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

You're welcome. I didn't know you had the patroller right as admin too. ;-) Although my initial request didn't work: Effeietsanders don't want to remove the right as it seems. Trijnstel (talk) 11:13, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
^^ Of course the above is not very important, but I think redundant rights are (literally) redundant and don't have any purpose. Trijnstel (talk) 11:21, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
I agree with you. BTW, I also removed some redundant rights on sr.wiki today :) mickit 20:21, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism Warning

Can you drop the Vandalism Warning off User talk:50.15.152.98? http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:50.15.152.98

I don't see it an issue of undoing my edit. There were 2 License Sections. User_talk:50.15.152.98 did the right thing by undoing it for me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johndulles1 (talk • contribs) 21:41, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Actually, it's not needed to do so. Mathonius explained here very clearly why not. For example, this talk page won't be indexed by Google. Trijnstel (talk) 19:09, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Yes. You're right. I made a mistake. I was about to check it though, so I should have noticed this mistake sooner or later. Trijnstel (talk) 22:11, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Again. I'm sorry. It was a stupid mistake (one I usually don't make). I hope you won't leave Commons because of me. That's not worth it. Trijnstel (talk) 22:11, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

How do I cancel my User Talk Page so it doesn't even exist? 50.15.152.98 22:28, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

You could add {{Speedy}} on top of the page, with the reason "Own request; own talk page" or something like that (so you could use {{Speedy|Own request; own talk page}}) and then wait til an administrator deletes it. Regards, Trijnstel (talk) 22:36, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

This page was being created, similarly to commons:Field Army insignia of the United States Army, specifically in line with English wikipedia policy; image galleries of the type Category:Insignia of the United States Army should be transferred to commons, in accordance with such decisions as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Field_Army_insignia_of_the_United_States_Army. Not sure what is going on with this file. Seems that there is a replacement to a non-existent file. I will leave it with you to sort if that is okay. :-)  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:18, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi Billinghurst. I see what may have gone wrong. On 4 September I moved all requests from User talk:CommonsDelinker/commands to User:CommonsDelinker/commands. That's why this is giving my name as the one who requests the replacement. In fact, Jacek555 requested it on 31 July. He uploaded the file that day and clearly wanted to rename the file. Masur did that a couple of hours later. The renaming isn't necessary anymore and therefore I removed the template. In the future I'll check the requests more. Hernoemingsverzoeken

I'm a trustful user on en.wiki and I was granted with file mover rights by why not here. I have used the rename template earlier before I requested this right and it was right away declined. See this for further understanding how i'm trustful on en.wiki and I understand about copyright and licensing on here and patrolling new files. If you believe that I should have more experience here, do I have to grant this right away or not. Regards. --Mohamed Aden Ighe (talk) 21:20, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Mohamed Aden Ighe/Katarighe. I declined some of your requests, yes. You requested all known requests on several projects (commons, meta, enwiki, simplewiki). Please remember that these rights aren't meant for status and that you only get these when you have the trust of the community and when you have proven you could use them. You're with just 600 edits still new on this project. It's absolutely unnecessary to mention the rights on other projects as these aren't important to us. Last warning: please stop(!) requesting rights on every single project you know (like you did here for simplewiki and here for sowiki) and try contributing on one... Kind regards, Trijnstel (talk) 21:55, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
You seem to be right and a good user, Thanks --Mohamed Aden Ighe (talk) 22:24, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

User:Victoiremalki

Hello Trijnstel,

Could you have a look at the various files uploaded by this editor, as we (administrators of the French Wikipedia) have some serious doubts about the relevance and/or the copyrights of these files ?

Just for your information, this editor is the President of the brand new (and extremely small) political party "Parti conservateur francais", which clearly fails notability (no independant sources, and recently deleted on fr:WP). By the way, this editor has just been blocked on fr:WP for repeated aggressive behaviour and threats.

Best regards. --Azurfrog (talk) 16:44, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

I've nominated all pictures for speedy deletion and they'll probably be deleted soon. Thanks for notifying me! Kind regards, Trijnstel (talk) 20:00, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Update: Within a day all pictures Victoiremalki uploaded were deleted by several admins. Trijnstel (talk) 18:47, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! --Azurfrog (talk) 10:06, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Answer to your question at Meta

Hello Trijnstel

Thank you for your suggestion. However, I think it's better to leave my old account locked because it won't be used anymore. If you have further question, notify me here. Thank you.

BTW, can you have a look at my OTRS application there. As you are an OTRS volunteer now, you can give me good advice. Kind regards--Morning Sunshine (talk) 08:37, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
Ok, in that case I'll leave it locked. I can't do anything with your request for OTRS rights as I don't decide whether someone will get these or not. Trijnstel (talk) 12:57, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

re New Holland including New South Wales

Trijnstel Thank you for your advice, copied as below. I have to admit I do not understand why you think the image, New Holland including New South Wales was considered by you as "not within our scope". I would be grateful if you could clarify why you consider it to be not with project scope? Thank you in anticipation, Camira

"Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content, New Holland including New South Wales, was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote.

If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding.

Dear Camira. I deleted the page New Holland including New South Wales, because it didn't contain any content. The only content was the sentence "New Holland including New South Wales" (the same one as the title of the page). Wikimedia Commons is quite different from other projects and I'll tell you why. Only images, audio and/or video will be uploaded to Commons. There are some pages too, but those only serve as a gallery to show all related images of that specific subject. Your page didn't include any images, only one sentence. This looked like a (very small) regular article and that's out of scope for Commons. See also Commons:Project scope. If you have more questions, feel free to ask them. Kind regards, Trijnstel (talk) 12:13, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Dear Trijnstel, Thank you for your response. I want to try to be constructive with my contributions and fit in with the requirements of Wikimedia Commons. I thought the image of the map, New Holland including New South Wales, was a useful contribution as the map was a significant contemporary reference for the history of British colonization of Australia and other parts of the Pacific in the 1780s and 1790s. I'm sorry to appear dumb, but I still do not understand what you mean by saying that "it didn't contain any content". I's be happy to add some relevant content if that would meet your objection. Yours sincerely, Camira — Preceding unsigned comment added by Camira (talk • contribs) 23:06, 19 December 2011‎ (UTC)

I'm not talking about the image File:New Holland including New South Wales.jpg (that's still online) - I'm talking about the page New Holland including New South Wales.jpg. The page (or a gallery as it's called here) didn't contain any relevant content. See Commons:Galleries for more information. Kind regards, Trijnstel (talk) 16:08, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Dear Trijnstel, Thanks, I understand now. It's only the image that I'm concerned about. I must have created the page inadvertently when I uploaded the image. So you are right! Camira — Preceding unsigned comment added by Camira (talk • contribs) 22:30, 21 December 2011‎ (UTC)

Filemover request

You recently denied my request for the file mover right, claiming "Not enough experience on Commons yet." I am somewhat flabbergasted by this, as I have had an account on Commons for almost 5 years, have uploaded over 500 images, and have over 1,000 edits. On en.wikipedia I have have had the file mover right for about 9 months and have moved (I estimate) 200 or more files to fix wrong or meaningless filenames, harmonize files of a set, etc. I'm curious: how much experience is required? Because at the same time you denied my request you granted the right to User:Americophile, who has less than 1 year's experience on Commons with less than 250 uploads (albeit over 3,000 edits). Is "experience" based simply on edit count? The reason I requested the right in the first place was simply to move a handful of files I'd uploaded that had a typo in the filename, without having to bother anyone else since I have plenty of experience moving files over at en.wikipedia and know what I'm doing. --IllaZilla (talk) 05:11, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Dear IllaZilla. When I saw your request for the filemover right, you had less than 1000 edits and I didn't see any rename requests either (in your contribs nor in your deleted contribs). It doesn't count how long you're active, as that usually doesn't say anything about your edits. Of course I also look at the activity elsewhere, but this is Commons and this project is quite different from others. Though after thinking about it a second time I guess I was wrong this time. I will grant you the right. Kind regards, Trijnstel (talk) 12:08, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for the reconsideration. --IllaZilla (talk) 15:41, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Een Kerstgeschenkje

Trijn, stel nu even…

Trijnstel (talk) 13:18, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

The usual junk!

Just for your info in case you see it elsewhere - this & this seem to be less than co-incidental. No other apparent accounts at present and on a fairly wide ip range. Let me know if you want more. Thanks & regards --Herby talk thyme 13:13, 27 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for informing me, but I won't do anything for the time being as he's not crosswiki active. Kind regards, Trijnstel (talk) 16:02, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
Agreed - more so that you had seen it in case it crops up elsewhere. Given the text it must be a bot I would think. Regards --Herby talk thyme 17:31, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
