Thank you for "discovering" so many of my photos. #8D) I had a great time traveling in Turkey in 2009, and I'm very happy to see the photos from my trip being used in the Turkish Wikipedia!

File:One For The Road Cover.png

[edit]

Hello,

I think we probably need a written permission sent to OTRS for this file, since there is no mention of a free license of the source website. Thanks, Yann (talk) 06:51, 30 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

But there is. I've added the link to it, see Commons page and http://bjornfree.com/licensing.html . Issue resolved, I supposed. Thanks for indicating the missing information. Uspn (talk) 22:26, 30 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Unfortunately, the site says You may not use this work for commercial purposes. which is not sufficient for Wikimedia Commons. All documents uploaded here should be available for any purpose, including commercial. Regards, Yann (talk) 06:29, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
There's an amendment regarding the low-resolution version of the cover page, "A facsimile of the cover is available for free use of any kind, including commercial purposes". I hope the Commons are happy now. Uspn (talk) 16:29, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think it is OK now. Thanks a lot. Yann (talk) 10:34, 10 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

File:Istanbul 2009 Comnenus Mosaics.JPG

[edit]

Hi, I removed the category because all pics in "Hagia Sophia (Istanbul) - Komnenos mosaics" category are already a classified as subcategory of "Ionnes II Komnenos", as you can see here. I don't understand why whe should maintain your pic there when all the others are in the subcategory. Would you care to explain? Thx! José Luiz disc 01:03, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, for some reason I couldn't see the new category yesterday, but now I see it. I've removed the unnecessary category again. Thank you, J! #8D) Uspn (talk) 06:05, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
No problem at all. This sort of thing happens! Thank you. José Luiz disc 09:31, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Uspn!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Thank You for the Wikipedia Pictures

[edit]

Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware pictures (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cradle_Mountain_Behind_Dove_Lake.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tuthankhamun_Egyptian_Museum.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Banjul-King-Fahad-Mosque-2007.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tikal-Plaza-And-North-Acropolis.jpg). I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:

http://www.freeenglishsite.com/

I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm

2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm

3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm

Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.

Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely,  Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Kelp Photo in Australia

[edit]

Hello, Would you know the species of the brown algae-kelp that is featured on the wikipedia article, known as Phycology?

I would like to edit the photo with name of kelp species, and date and place of photo with your name as photographer.

I know that Giant Kelp of California is also known in Australia. Macrocystis spp.

I'm from California.

Peace, 'Roy'2606:6000:6A85:700:703C:23CF:5897:226C 09:20, 17 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Roy. Sorry, I'm not a kelp expert. I can only tell you the exact location for where the photo was taken. It's in Hazards Bay, Freycinet National Park, Tasmania, Australia. The water there is cold, so that may leave out a few species from the equation. The photo was taken in December 2008. Sorry I can't help out much. 139.112.164.68 11:16, 17 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

File:Night Longyearbyen.jpg

[edit]

Hello. I've made changes to your image, assuming the date it was taken is correct. The polar night doesn't begin in Svalbard until October. Sunrises and sunsets still occur in September. Kind regards Lukas Beck (talk) 09:43, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

I think you may not have read the actual description you changed. It says exactly the same as you indicated. It's more accurate than the text you replaced it with (the photo was taken late in the afternoon, not at night), so I'll undo your change. I really have tried to be very clear about what the photo shows. Uspn (talk) 09:49, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
So, as long as the photo was taken in September, when sunrises and sunsets occur, the term "polar night" can't be correct. Please feel free to add a better description than I have, but it should be accurate. Lukas Beck (talk) 10:09, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
The description already points out that this is not a photo of the polar night, but I can vouch for it looking exactly like how polar night looks. I don't know how much more clear the description can be. Uspn (talk) 10:11, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
My mistake, I read it too quickly and incorrectly. I came across your photo because it was presented in German Wikipedia as an illustration of the polar night. That was incorrect. I also prematurely related that to the image data and overlooked important details. Sorry. Lukas Beck (talk) 10:12, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Nice photo by the way Lukas Beck (talk) 10:13, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
No worries, thank you for your good intentions. :) I have it on my list of things to do to get a similar photo taken during the actual polar night, to replace this one. It will look VERY similar, though. :) Svalbard is a great place for taking photos, you'll find many more much nicer ones than this one if you check out my contribution history. Uspn (talk) 10:16, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hello @Uspn. Are you okay that the file name is changed? If you wish as the orgininal uploader i can move the file back to it's original name. @L. Beck: If you move a file, please add the move criteria. Regards, זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 10:32, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
PS: Sorry, I meant a short explanation of the reason for the file move. זיו「Ziv」For love letters and other notes 10:37, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Neither file name is completely accurate, so you may as well leave it as it is. Thank you for checking! Uspn (talk) 10:44, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
