Hi Walla2chick and welcome to Wikimedia Commons. Above there are a lot of rules, links and suggested stuff to read. You can have a look at it but it's a lot to read and most of it not too important for newcomers. Instead, I'll try to explain everything. First step is basically to find the upload button. Just take a look at the left bar - you have the search, than "navigation" and "participate". In "participate" you find "upload file". Well, there's again a lot of stuff to read but I think everything is explained nicely. Good luck, let me know if you need help and thank you for your pictures. At some step it asks for categories. Basically, Palouse pictures should be in Category:Palouse, pictures of Walla Walla should be at Category:Walla Walla, Washington. Don't worry about it, just Be bold and I'll try to take care of anything on the way. Regards, --X-Weinzar (talk) 17:00, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images[edit]

Hello, Walla2chick!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi Walla2chick, glad to see you here! I put the pictures into Category:Walla Walla, Washington and added the picture of the building to the article en:Baker Boyer Bank. Regards, --X-Weinzar (talk) 02:52, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
PS.: And also to the Walla Walla article itself. --X-Weinzar (talk) 03:17, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
