We hope, So Sorry That You've Retired[edit]

We hope, no one is sorrier than I am to discover that you've retired. Under the circumstances, I can't blame you, but you are the single contributor who means the most to me personally. We've communicated before when I've been under earlier Usernames: I've contributed countless articles about film and television under many guises, with my favorite being the television series Maverick, and I've learned to immediately spot the photographs that you uploaded and I'm practically never, ever wrong. Wikipedia would be a decidedly different looking place without your contributions, We hope, and I will miss them (and through them, you) going into the future. As for me, I'm continuously trying to quit, destroying any current Username with a random password designed for me to forget, then idiotically setting up a new one at some point in the future in spite of myself. I'm addicted to contributing, a form of idiocy since, in my case, it takes up way too much of my time when I should be writing for myself. Eventually I hope to do what you've done, and simply quit, but I'm not sure when that will happen. Hopefully right now. In any case, I want to let you know how much your nine million contributions have brightened my life and how much I'll miss not having more on the way. Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, We hope!

A barnstar for you![edit]

Special Barnstar Hires.png The Special Barnstar
You've done a lot of great work here, and it's been nice helping you out when I could. It's good to see that, despite the retirement tags, you're still doing at least a little editing. I hope everything's going good for you offline. Take care. Face-smile.svg INeverCry 23:26, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Copyright status of Batman villain photograph?[edit]

Dear We hope, I am sorry to see you are no longer active on Wikimedia Commons. I realize you may not get this, but wanted to reach out about a photo you posted here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Batman_villains_The_Penguin_The_Riddler_The_Joker_1967.JPG

I would like to use this photo in a television show and am looking for more information about its history and copyright status. Could you please email me at JEN(at)COMMITTEEFILMS.COM ? I would really appreciate it. Thank you for your time!

Sincerely, Jen --50.194.196.193 17:08, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply!!!!

Photo deletion[edit]

Hi,

I think, you've made a bad mistake for suggesting this photo

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ginger_Rogers_-_still.jpg

for deletion. I've read it somewhere, that publicity photos from te old days have special copyright stuff, and can appear anywhere, so I think, you should remove your tag.

User:Bojszerik-The uploader licensed it as having no copyright marks. Here's a copy that has-see lower left of linked photo. The uploader of the photo has had a history of bad uploads; he has been blocked from Commons under this, his former user name, and his current one, since November 2013. Commons-emblem-issue.svg File:Jim Morrison 1968.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue.

Regardless of the outcome of this, I am returning to the retirement I posted here in March. I will be here to change file information if needed to assist others at en:WP and tasks related to cleaning up from image checks at en:WP for FAC and FLC, etc., but I will no longer do any uploads of new images to Commons. Someone else will eventually finish moving the film posters and lobby cards from en:WP. Posting my reasons for this would just be repeating what both User:Magog the Ogre and User talk:Fastily have said when they left the project recently. We hope (talk) 13:05, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

when you no longer have a chance to say anything before something's deleted, it's time to go. We hope (talk) 00:52, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Possible DRs[edit]

I don't know what I've done to you to get on your bad side, however this page User:We hope/Possible DRs byJosve05a seems a bit...aggressive somehow. The images on the bot generated galleries User:Josve05a/Possible DRs (Which I have deactivated) are all new uploads in subcats of Category:NoUploads. There are bound to be false errors... Can you save a famous photo of Lead Belly from deletion on Commons?[edit]

We hope,

Can you save a famous photo of Lead Belly from deletion on Commons? It is a file I transfered from English Wikipedia a while back, and I'm a bit out of my league on this deletion request. You are the most able person I know when it comes to copyright renewal, so I immediately thought that if you can't determine the renewal status of this image then no one can. I don't want to dump yet another request on your desk, but I thought that you might be perfectly suited for this deletion request. All the best!

Unblock. Comments?[edit]

I'm pinging you since you were part of past discussions. I have 'provisionally' unblocked User:Light show, specifically under his agreement that he will seek prior feedback on his talk page before any uploads. Any effort on your part to keep an eye on him would be a good thing. Please let me know if you have any complaints about he unblocking him with that restriction. I'm aware that there has been long past drama regarding this user on other wikis, but tbh the history of such things is fairly convoluted. Thanks. Revent (talk) 05:24, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

Can you suggest the best way to get prior feedback or approval for uploads? --Light show (talk) 19:48, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
@Light show: Since it appears that you are mostly interested in uploading images that are already visible online (from Ebay auctions, etc.) just posting a question about it on your talk page, giving a link, and pinging a couple of people who are familiar with the issues regarding copyright on those works should be fine. You could also ask on the Copyright Village Pump to get a wider set of responses, though I'd ask you just point people at your talk page with a request for help, for the sake of making the various threads easier for people to keep an eye on. Hopefully, you realize that this unblock isn't a license to just start uploading lots of images again... I really hope you'll use the ability to edit outside of your own talk page to also work on checking your older uploads (from your previous account) and give the specific information needed to clear them, and help make the problematic ones go away. Revent (talk) 06:22, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
OK, I'll try my best. Thanks for the suggestions. --Light show (talk) 16:21, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Potential Image[edit]

I was wondering if you could do a copyright check next time you're able. Gene Roddenberry was featured in an advertising campaign for Mutual of New York back in 1961 - there's plenty of sources for the scanned versions online, but curiosity getting the better of me I checked the image and discovered that it makes no mention of copyright nor contains any copyright tags. There's an example on ebay here. So I'm wondering if much like the Star Trek original promo shots, this might not have been copyrighted at the time. The image was never re-used, so could easily have been missed in the renewal. As always, thanks for all the work you've done on Star Trek images amongst all your other work - you've completely transformed all the articles for the Original Series. Miyagawa (talk) 18:04, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

Tagging copyvios[edit]

Hi, When tagging copyright violations, please inform the uploader. This is best done using the gagdet. See in your preferences. Regards, Yann (talk) 19:04, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Barbra Streisand pictures?[edit]

It seems like you're retired or whatever, but I'll give it a shot anyway. I've noticed your wonderful work collecting pictures from eBay. My knowledge about how this works is equal to zero, so if you could offer a helping hand, I would be (more than) grateful! I need some more Barbra Streisand pictures, but I don't know how it works. Help? (please tag me in respond) Torfilm (talk) 17:22, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

I want to know also. Do you buy the images from EBay or are you able to download their images from their website and get around the right click missing somehow? --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 21:27, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

Please, one last favor from you[edit]

We Hope, I can not begin to tell you my admiration supplying photos legally! Since 2006, I have uploaded upwards of 2,000 photos via contacting photographers from Flickr and explaining about changing their photos adapt Creative Commons licenses to obtain needed photos. I always wanted to get help from you or someone else you can refer to me who knows about the legalities of using promotional photos, for example, and how you go about finding them. I'm not a smart person, but can learn, esp. if it's something which becomes routine. I am still HOPEful, --Leahtwosaints (talk) 15:51, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

Lobby cards by year[edit]

Hi there. Can you find another solution to categorizing lobby cards by year? I added "Movie posters of the United States, [year]" to many of the lobby card files, since lobby cards are categorized as movie posters. I suppose it could be possible to create "Lobby cards of the United States, [year]", and subcategorize under the movie poster category. Having them categorized by year would be helpful for people looking at graphic design for a particular period. — WFinch (talk) 16:12, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

The Enterprise Incident[edit]

Dear We hope,

Do you know of any copyright free images for The Enterprise Incident? Perhaps one of the rare female Romulan captain Joanne Linville or of Kirk dressed as a Romulan...or the Romulan ships surrounding the Enterprise or something else? This episode is considered one of the few classics of the third Original Star Trek season but I don't know of any free promotional images for it. My non-free image for it was deleted a week ago. You did mention a previous problem with the nominator--I'd rather not name anyone--and while I agree that most of the Trek images were decorative, a few were kept and I did speedy delete several others which were--I agree just decorative--but the image for this article was not kept.

If there is nothing good and copyright free for The Enterprise Incident then so be it. Kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:15, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

Dear We hope, I thank you for your response and concerns about Paramount's copyright enforcement privacy. Like you, I imagine there might have been a photo of the first Romulan captain posted someone but since it can't be found and there are no free images of the Enterprise Incident, then all I can do is thank you for your efforts. Miyagawa got this image for the Paradise Syndrome and you this Paramount publicity image for Spock's Brain but I suppose its just bad luck for The Enterprise Incident that no free publicity photos appeared anywhere for it. Kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 18:28, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
