First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

"Odznaka Za Zasługi dla Górnictwa" na podstawie Rozporządzenia Rady Ministrów z dnia 28 listopada 2001 r. (Dz.U. 2001 nr 141 poz. 1587) zastąpiona jednostopniową odznaką honorową "Zasłużony dla Górnictwa RP".
Nowa odznaka ma postać srebrnej poprzedniczki, zaś baretkę – brązowej.
W związku z tym pozwoliłem sobie dokonać niewielkich edycji w opisie trzech baretek Twojego autorstwa:

  • Ta? Bo strasznie podobne do wzorów np. stąd. A jak sobie szybciutko czytam, odznaki są inicjatywą KST Cadca (Słowacja), KCT Trinec (Czechy), BS PTTS v RC (Czechy), PTTK Żywiec (Polska) oraz PTTK Wisła (Polska), zatem praw autorskich spodziewałbym się jakoś w ich okolicy.     • Nie wnikając już czy ty jesteś autorem plików, otwartą pozostaje kwestia czy możesz ty (osobiście) dysponować prawami autorskimi do nich, czy raczej pozostają one w gestii np. PTTK. Zapoznaj się proszę (i wdróż opisaną tam procedurę, o ile ma ona zastosowanie; w tym celu odtwarzam pliki na 7 dni. Kilka grafik Twojego autorstwa zostało w grudniu zgłoszonych do usunięcia jako prace pochodne od dzieł objętych prawem autorskim, dostępnych na stronie uniforminsignia.org (poprzednie zgłoszenie). Czy mógłbyś potwierdzić, że jesteś jedynym autorem tych grafik i nie mają one nic wspólnego ze grafikami dostępnymi na ww. stronie? Grafiki te przekraczają tzw. threshold of originality i jako takie objęte są prawami autorskimi, więc jeśli oparłeś się na pracach objętych prawami autorskimi, powinny być one niestety usunięte z Wikimedia Commons. Czy odznaki PTTK są zdefiniowane w Dzienniku Ustaw Sejmu RP, czy wyłącznie w regulaminach własnych PTTK? Jeśli tak, to czy PTTK określa na jakiej zasadzie udostępnia ich projekty? Bowiem takie fotografie, skany itp. odwzorowania, które odwzorowują projekt graficzny takich znaków są pracami pochodnymi od dzieł objętych prawami autorskimi.   • OK, to skoro to wenętrzna sprawa PTTK to znaki te podlegają ochronie prawno-autorskie, a ty jako je reprodukujący nie nabywasz praw do takich reprodukcji. Nie wnikam czy autor jest znany czy nie, ale dopóki odznaki te są w regulaminach PTTK (jedynym wyjątkiem byłyby tu odznaki zdefiniowane w regulamianie twojego własnego stowarzyszenia i nigdzie indziej, o ile twoje koło PTTK ma swój własny regulamin; wtedy ty jako jego prezes mógłbyś rzeczywiście udzielić pozwolenia. Czyli gdy właścicielem majątkowych praw autorskich jest twoje własne koło) to przyjmuję że prawami autorskimi dysponuje zarząd tego stowarzyszenia. W takim wypadku wkrótcę będę musiał je skasować. Pamiętaj także, że niezależnie od tego czy pliki są czy nie są na wolnych licenjach, lub w domenie publicznej, zasadą commons jest podanie oryginalengo autora oraz źródła.   1. jeżeli dobrze zrozumiałem pliki znajdujące się na dowolnej stronie, na licencji CC BY-SA 3.0 PL, czyli uwolnione (pomijam kto, jak i dlaczego to zrobił) nie mogą być wgrywane na Commons? - mogą o ile mamy pewność, że autor strony rzeczywiście dysponuje do nich prawami autorskimi. Czyli nie pomijamy kto, jak i dlaczego...
  2. o jakich reprodukcjach mówisz? To są zdjęcia, które tylko „poprawiłem” w Photoshopie. - reprodukcja, praca pochodna, czyli nietwórcze odwzorowanie innego dzieła, np. skan, czy fotografia fotografii, czy właśnie odznaki. Fotografując inne dzieło nie dodajesz znaczącego wkładu własnego.
  3. czy jeżeli zrobię fotografię dowolnej odznaki PTTK, to mogę ją przesłać na Commons, czy nie? - nie. Nie jesteś autorem projektu tej odznaki, a fotografując ją nie spełniasz kryterium oryginalności zazwyczaj. Patrz też odpowiedź wyżej. To jak fotografowanie fotografii.
  4. File:GOT mala braz.JPG i inne. - nie ja je przesłałem, a przeniosłem z plwiki. Ładującym był kto inny. Dziękuję za zwrócenie mi na to uwagi. Oczywiście pliki te zostaną skasowane.
  5. przedstawia odznakę organizacyjną, którą może posługiwać się każdy członek PTTK - możliwość posługiwania się nie oznacza nabycia prawa do dysponowania majątkowywmi prawami autorskimi.
  6. to odznaki, które mają ponad 100 lat! Czy też dotyczy ich prawo autorskie? - nie, o ile znajdzie się źródło z którego wynika, że ich wzór przeszedł do domeny publicznej. Np. regulamin PTTK sprzed 100 lat. Zauważ także, że domena publiczna nie liczy się od daty ustalenia dzieła, ale od daty śmierci jego autora (o ile znany).
  7. dlaczego masz zwyczaj odpowiadać na zadawane Ci pytania wybiórczo? - omijam kwestie niezwiązane z omawianą sprawą. Obecnie omawiamy odznaki PTTK, a nie inne dotyczące prawa autorskiego. Niemniej jednak, także na inne pytania (w tym dotyczące tego pomnika) udzieliłem ci odpowiedzi.
  8. Nigdzie i nigdy nie twierdziłem, że jestem autorem projektów wizerunków tych konkretnych odznak, które wgrałem na Commons. - wręcz przeciwnie. Twierdzisz tak przy każdej odznace, a także innych skasowanych plikach.
  9. Ja jestem jedynie autorem zdjęć tych odznak. - o właśnie. jedynie autorem zdjęć - zauważ, że ja nigdzie nie zarzucam ci rozmyslnego łamania prawa autorskiego, ale robiłeś to mimowolnie. Mianowicie założyłeś, że jako autor fotografii, masz prawo do dyssponowania treściami, które one przedstawia, jednak nie ma to miejsca, gdy taka fotografia nie spełnia kryterium orygilności, czy jest reprodukcją innego dzieła. Wspominae wyżej skany czy właśnie fotki odznak, ich wzorów etc. Tu leży sedno. Tworzysz prace pochodne, a nie prace oryginalne, zatem by takie prace pochodne mogły być na wolnej licencji ich podstawa także być musi.
  10. Może oświeciłbyś mnie niedoświadczonego co należy zrobić w sytuacji, gdy autor jest ... - wymaga się minimum przyzwoitości. Tj. dołożenia sił by ustalić/podać rzeczywistego autora oraz oryginalne źródło. Związana jest z tym także odpowiedź numer 1. Zatem źródło wobec którego wątpliwe jest że dysponuje ono prawami autorskimi do przesyłanego dzieła może zostać zanegowane. Zatem jeśli to zarząd główny PTTK w swoich regulaminach ustala te odznaki, to twoje koło, nawet jako osobny byt prawny, nie nabywa do nich praw autorskich, a ty na jego stronie możesz sobie pisać co chcesz (nota bene łamiąc przy tym prawo).

I jak mniemam, powyższe odpowiedzi powinny całkowicie wyklarować sprawę. Podsumowując kluczowe jest: przesyłamy wyłącznie dzieła znajdujące się na wolnych licencjach (lub z domeny publicznej) lub ich pochodne, podając oryginalnego autora oraz źródła (ze staraniami by dotrzeć do prawdziwych danych oraz biorąc pod uwagę, że ze źródła musi wynikać dlaczego dzieło jest na wolnej licencji) jednocześnie pamiętając, że to nie my nim jesteśmy jeśli tworzymy dzieło pochodne, czyli takie które nie spełnia tzw. kryterium oryginalności, bo jest np. wiernym odwzorowaniem oryginału.     • Ano właśnie. Po pierwsze pliki przesłane na commons nie pochodzą z podanej publikacji. Zatem to źródło nie ma wobec nich żadnego zastosowania. Po drugie, tzw. licencja PD-PRL obejmuje wyłącznie utwory fotograficzne lub fotografiom podobne, podczas gdy ten zeszyt PTTK zawiera ryciny odznak (jak sam zresztą zauważyłeś: znajdują się opublikowane w 1981 roku rysunki z wizerunkami odznak). Zatem nie są one w domenie publicznej na mocy starej ustawy o prawe autorskim. Na przyszłośc pamiętaj, że "źródło" w opisie pliku to dokładnie to źródło z którego zaczerpnięty został plik.
