Hello, Wistula!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi Shizhao - the author of both stamp-scans is unknown, the company, which produced those stamps doesn't exist anymore since (I guess) end of WW II. So no chance to ask anybody about that topic, though I tried, as I contacted the local townhall. If you believe that under those conditions any authors' rights are touched, you have to remove. Scan was done by me from original stamps, which I own.--Wistula (talk) 15:18, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content, File:FM brown.JPG, was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote.

If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. Otherwise, consider an alternative outlet. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding.

What is needed is primarily the reference of the catalogue, as precise as possible (title, year, editor, and most crucial, place of publication). Thanks in advance. --Eusebius (talk) 19:57, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Last changes in the foto-description done: that is really all I can say about. I firmly believe, that there are nobodies' author rights touched as I am sure those fotos have been done by an employee of the publisher, with all rights kept by the publisher. The publisher (Polte Armaturen- und Maschinenfabrik (OHG)) has been liquidated under sowjet government in the Eastern part of Germany 1945. There is no legal entity following the former owner anymore, so nobody existing, who could have or claim any rights to this foto (which eventually anyway could be nearly 100 yrs old). rgds --Wistula (talk) 21:54, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the information. I have edited after you, trying to limit visible info to the bibliographical details. I can't read German though, I hope it still looks consistent. Copyright status should be ok, but it is probably more Anonymous-EU than PD-old (don't bother changing that). When you have time, would you please duplicate the source and author field on the other files from the same catalogue? Thanks in advance. --Eusebius (talk) 22:07, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Will do that, give me just a few days pls, Thanks for info and help, rgds --Wistula (talk) 22:11, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Re: Fortress Warsaw

Hi there :) I'll be happy to do that - I hope tomorrow morning I'll find time to create that image. --Leafnode 13:27, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Well, I've decided that I have to do this quick, because otherwise I can forget about it and it'd linger inside my todo list for weeks ;) As you've noticed, I didn't do this yesterday, but I've started the work and hopefully soon it'll be finished :) --Leafnode 12:16, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
Hello. Look at this: File:Mapa Warszawski Rejon Umocniony.svg - it's an early version, and it still needs some work. BTW I've found this map: http://www.varsovia.pl/varsovia/warstwy/twierdza/plan.jpg - do you want this SVG plan to be updated/expanded to include also those other fortifications? --Leafnode 11:43, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Leafnote, that is already very nice, great job ! And you are right - it would be good, if the Warsaw fortification map fits to the one, you did already about the Region Fortification (incl Modlin, Zegrze). In the region map you have nine forts in the inner circle of Warsaw (incl X, which officially counts as the outer one), which follows the map of Ostrowski - I guess, at a later stage of the construction. And it would be absolutely perfect, if you could do another (small map) about the citadel and its 6+1 forsts, as to show them in the existing map would be too tiny ... btw - are you Warsawian ? --Wistula (talk) 10:20, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
OK, so if I find some free time, I'll update all the diagrams to reflect the final state of the Warsaw Fortress, just before the decision to abandon it. And yes, I was born and live in Warsaw - what's more, I spent a lot of time during my childhood playing on and exploring P-Fort (Bema). --Leafnode 15:33, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Urskon16DSC_0199.JPG. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Was denn nun? --Martina Nolte (talk) 17:36, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

--Martina Nolte (talk) 17:52, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

PD-old is for works whose author has been known to be dead for more than 70 years. --Martina Nolte (talk) 01:13, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

I changed this to an alternate licence, and Martina was right to address her concerns to me. We need some further information to ascertain that the correct tag is applied to the work.
 • What is the source of the photo? Is it from a family collection or from another source, please would you give more detail. It is a good idea to provide as much detail as possible, to stop queries like this, and for historical purposes.
 • What actions have you taken to identify the person who took the photograph?
It is important that we give a reasonable effort to identify the original author of a work so that their rights are protected. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 14:18, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the switch, I couldn't contribute much new info. I guess, that most fotos of this age, specially from the eastern part of Germany (due to ww and socilizm) wouldn't state infos about the photografer ? And whom to ask - already the children generation of those who than ordered a photo aren't alive anymore --Wistula (talk) 16:21, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Martina Nolte (talk) 18:04, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Deshalb ist PD-EU-no author disclosure wahrscheinlich ebenfalls unzutreffend. --Martina Nolte (talk) 01:02, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Ah, ich sehe gerade: "Polte Armaturen- und Maschinenfabrik (OHG)) has been liquidated under sowjet government in the Eastern part of Germany 1945. There is no legal entity following the former owner anymore, so nobody existing, who could have or claim any rights to this foto".

SLA gestellt. Siehe unten --Martina Nolte (talk) 16:24, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Urheber + Todesdatum unbekannt

Verwaistes Werk?

--Martina Nolte (talk) 14:14, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

PD-old korrekt

--Martina Nolte (talk) 22:19, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Wilanowska Ave. in Warsaw

Right, my edition was a mistake. In fact I thought that the Royal Tract category was attributed to the tiny Wilanowska St. in Solec, which is close to Ujazdowskie Aves., the central part of the Royal Route. It made me think this categorisation was completely wrong as I just forgot about this southmost part of Wilanowska. In a perfect world category:Aleja Wilanowska in Warsaw could be splited into subcategories like category:Aleja Wilanowska in Warsaw - north-western part and category:Aleja Wilanowska in Warsaw - south-eastern part, and the latter one would be also a subcategory of Category:Royal Tract in Warsaw. However, I don't always know, which photo was taken from which part, so I couldn't make this recategorisation completely. Panek (talk) 12:48, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, the split in two parts is especially with this street not so beautiful, as there are quite few interesting fotos to contribute; its a long street, but kind of ugly/boring. So let's live in a unperect world so far (til they build some intersting buildings/statues alongside) ! Best regards, --Wistula (talk) 14:19, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Jolanta Dyr's categories

Hi, you've mentioned, that some Jolanta's categories are at your watch-list. Are you perhaps going to make some order with them? It seems Jolanta left the project, so we cannot try to persuade her to do that. I think that apart from the ensemble categories which are justified since parks and palaces usually are strongly connected, the parks should also be categorised in park categories, and the palaces in the palace ones etc., but I've got no time to study the structure of Szuster's Ensemble well enough to make it properly right now. rgrds Panek (talk) 14:20, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Hello Panek, I would care about the Wilanów castle/park/sorrounding and the Szuster Palace/Morskie-Oko cat-groups. Not today but maybe at next weekend. Best regards --Wistula (talk) 14:49, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Category:Park Morskie Oko incl merged Category:Szuster Palace ensemble in Warsaw and new cats Category:Ponds at Park Morskie Oko, Category:Monuments and memorials in Park Morskie Oko is fixed now, but actually I have enough, Wilanów-Palace will have to wait a bit now. rgds --Wistula (talk) 13:48, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Well done. I've done sth with her Łazienki's cats. Panek (talk) 19:48, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Would be more fun, if she would have picked not already so often fotographed objects. Her fotos are (at least conc the Szuster-ensemble) quite redundent. Anyway, best regards, have a nice weekend ! --Wistula (talk) 19:55, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Mokotów/Śródmieście

According to my Warsaw map (printed, so I can't give a link) the border of Śródmieście runs from Pl. Unii by Klonowa, Spacerowa, Podchorążych, Nowosielecka to Vistula. Conf: http://www.mapa.um.warszawa.pl/mapa/Mapa.aspx?service=Today Panek (talk) 12:58, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

So its about Łazienki, they wanted to have the park completely in Srodmiescje - makes sense. Spacerowa itself is the border, good to know, thanks --Wistula (talk) 13:55, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

Freedom of panorama in Poland exists only in public paces OUTSIDE ("streets, parks, gardens" as specified in copyright law). For sculptures inside museum you need copyright owner's permission (unless it's in public domain 70 years after sculptor death). A.J. (talk) 10:12, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

That is why I wouldn'y mind the fotos to be deleted; your colleague Turelio just thought, that eventually somebody might organize permissions by the artists - which I doubted. Rgds --Wistula (talk) 14:20, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Jolanta Dyr

Well, Jolanta Dyr apparently seems to feel offended easily, so while talking with her I try explain everything patiently and without patronising attitude. I think she learns a lot and her pictures' quality is much better than used to be the previous year (the photos you listed as the worse ones are from 2011's Wiki Loves Monuments). I discussed with her about redundancy, but we just agreed that we have other points of view. ;-) Panek (talk) 16:14, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

I got a bit the same impression, anyway things may develop, thanks and have a nice sunday eve, --Wistula (talk) 16:45, 14 October 2012 (UTC). And you are right, photos are from last year - I missed that. --Wistula (talk) 16:48, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
I see that my person has become a topic of discussion section, but it is not an honor for me, but rather a problem. I should not be the subject of a discussion, but the merits, which is commons. Would have been nicer if we could be talking about resources encyclopedia merits, and not about the people and their emotions in a more or less patronizing my dear gentlemen. It's not me in the past year, I started talking straight rather emotional mangle rather than encyclopedic publications. That you were offended Wistula last year that saw fit to take pictures of the same objects as you. I did not know the Commons, as hundreds of participants WZL2012 today and if I expected from someone comments are useful, not bashing. And you, unfortunately, until wrzałeś emotions offensive in my direction, some of them today, I sense in you. You might want to realize. Woman is a man, even if he does not respect them. I have 60 years, I am engineer by education, little seen in his life, and some have already done, and I do not need to bring up. If I'm doing something else, maybe because I'm alive. And I was doing among the young, it may be because it's what I do goes to such space in which mostly young people work. Wistula, I do not need a mediator, please, would you reconsider this in the future. And now we can move on to the substantive issues, if you gentlemen will.
Wistula - always appreciated the substantive comments and often take it to heart, just as I appreciate very much your photos and their quality, but among them go to good and bad, not to say of poor quality, so usually I go to the Critique of distance, because if you want you can always find an argument staked thesis (I am an engineer and I know a lot of cases).
I do not wish at this time to look for counter-arguments to defend their poor work. There is nothing in the way of you nominated them all to be thrown away, I will not have it to you by grief. I am well aware of the quality of many of his pictures from last year's WLZ. But I also see the "walking on the commons" hundreds of images of lower quality than mine, which odbrywają an important role in the texts published in the encyclopedia, I try to tame itself now also own emotions and more to watch than "blame".
Many of my photos have been removed last year, without asking for my permission, and perhaps good for the encyclopedia. Unfortunately, I am also aware of your emotional for me and I do not want to discuss about. This discussion led to my departure last year for several months of the Commons.
Each of the indicated by you my pictures can be removed or corrected. Some may have to do is improve, some thrown away. It should be noted, however, that the flowers in the world are similar, but not necessarily the same, and pots arranged in one way or another fit the character of the space and not another's, although the world are similar to each other. No need to share my opinion, but let me be I had. In particular, such spaces as the conservatory, which chose my pictures of flowers. Do not like them, please nominate it for deletion.
For me there is a problem go to the Wilanów because I live 1.5 km from him today and make quality images of the same object, except perhaps flowers that have long faded and been replaced this year with new plantings. The conservatory comes to admire the flowers, discounts, how they are planting and arrangement of space. One of the elements of this place are flowers and donc. Flowers specific to this time and place. For the gardener and the nature of space. I'm not a botanist, and I can not call them, but it seems to me that it is the composition of the space of the picture. Another thing, if I can show, or not. Then I could - please nominate these pictures to be deleted.
Wistula - I have no desire for emotional discussions with you, either now or in the future, but if you have ever important substantive comments, you will know them happy, because that always bring benefits not only for me but for the place and time in which both what we do not only for themselves.
You're right, sometimes less is more.
Sincerely, thanks for your valuable comments - --Jolanya Dyr (talk) 13:00, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
ps sorry my english if it is infested with the bugs, but on a daily basis do not speak English and now I use a translator.
Jolanta Dyr, I understand, what you mean, thanks for the feedback. I just would like to have good photos at Commons - at least in areas in which I am quite active and about which I care. That is not connected with you personally, so no offense. Kind regards, --Wistula (talk) 13:09, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Mosty w Wilanowie

Wilanow30 DSC0020.JPG

XIX, ul. Wiertnicza, 639/33 z 2.1973 jest most na zdjecie ? pozdr. --Wistula (talk) 16:18, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Welcome Wistula

in response to your question - as far as I can understand the available resources, I am confident about the location of the bridge and its historic character. As the pictures show, these are three different bridges, and all three may be historic in nature and probably they have.

I introduced today three files for a moment that soon I will remove [5]:

 • Currently Streets Wiertnicza and Przyczółkowa meet each other at a height of Wilanowska Avenue. In 1988, the course of the street was a bit different - the plan is evident [File: 0 - Wilanow - Plan of 1988r.jpg]. Today between the streets Janczarów and Vogel is not ul Wiertnicza but is ul.Kostki-Potocki.
 • In the study of conditions and directions of development of Warsaw - [File:0 - Wilanow - study uwarunkowan.jpg] bridge, which I have indicated as historical is shown near the streets Wiertnicza and Przyczółkowa - for so this is my place, which I have indicated.
 • The third picture sent to the commons today to plan Wilanów monuments within and around the Palace [File: 0 - Wilanow - przewodnik.jpg].

These three bridges actually exist in Wilanów, are located in the area known as "The Royal Wilanów", and have a historic character. For me everything is okay with them. The categories in the Commons it is all right.

I tried to explain everything as best I can. I hope that I have succeeded. If you do not - I'm sorry. There is nothing more I can do. Regards --Jolanya Dyr (talk) 09:50, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Small, thin booklet Fri "Wilanów" - unless his own publishing Museum in Wilanów. I bought it (5 zł) in the Orangery. There is no footer publishing. Jadwiga Mieleszko text, photos, several authors. In Polish probably not available, there may still be purchased in German or English. Unusual size 19.7 * 19.2 cm.--Jolanya Dyr (talk) 14:47, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

The pleasure is mine - if I could help you. :)) - --Jolanya Dyr (talk) 15:18, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

De728631 (talk) 13:59, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
Habe die 3.0 Lizenz jetzt mal nachgeschoben, danke, --Wistula (talk) 15:15, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
