Bedankt

Hoi Wouter.

Image:Hydrangea sargentiana B.jpg Image:Hydrangea sargentiana C.jpg

Hi, these images have wrong ID. This is Viburnum plicatum. H. sargentiana (now H. aspera subsp. sargentiana) is very different. Please change their names. epibase 16:17, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments. The plant has been sold to us 14 years ago as Hydrangea sargentiana. Indeed it may be not that, but I think it is a hydrangea and certainly not Viburnum plicatum. See for example the images in the catalog on http://www.esveld.nl/htmldia/v/viplic.htm
The image I found for Hydrangea aspera sargentiana shows pink coloured flowers, see http://www.esveld.nl/htmldia/h/hysarg.htm The flowers of the plant in our garden are pure white. The plant remains quite low, less than 150 cm
Do you have other possibilities? Wouter 21:39, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
I investigated further. Indeed you are right; it is the viburnum plicatum 'Mariesii'. Thanks! -Wouter 14:54, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Spiraea thunbergii

I found your comment at my talk page today, I'm sorry for no answer so long. The picture was taken at a river side park. The plant is often planted in parks in Japan, and looks similer to the picture. There are several varieties(subspecies) of Spiraea thunbergii, so some varieties may look different.

I'm not an expert about plants, and not sure the accurate variety of the plant I took, but it seems Spiraea thunbergii ( Spiraea thunbergii Siebold ex Blume ?).

Thank you.--Moja 11:57, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

my talk page and suggestion

Yes you are right I know the fellow who added 1000's of species categories matching the gallery species and yes it was annoying, It is fruitless to change all that one page at a time so I will limit my edites to smaller things, I hadn't thought about woriking on the latin names but thanks for the suggestion and it looks like I forgot to sign in User WayneRay

Druk aan het experimenteren? :) Gebruik alsjeblieft Nieuwenaam.ext. Groet, Siebrand 09:56, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

--Foroa 13:40, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

I appologise for the wrong change in categorisation, but would it be possible to include a bit more information in the description of the picture? I tried to form your reasoning in a description and hope that I didn't make another mistake... --Anna reg (talk) 07:01, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Removing Categories

That's a good idea, so if a picture is characteristic/symbolic, i will categorize it in the genus category and the species category. I think that a characteristic picture is either an overview photo, either a flower photo, either an illustration. Best regards. Guérin Nicolas (messages) 10:00, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

I saw how you categorized Image:Genista acanthoclada B.jpg, i fully agree, i will do the same. Thanks a lot for your good advise. Guérin Nicolas (messages) 10:03, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Information about where the photo was taken

Couldnt you try to put that information into the information-template, please? abf /talk to me/ 19:33, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your comment. In my opinion is the information template not the right place. In the past I sometimes included it in the description.
When uploading an image the template gives the field "additional information". The explanation mentions that there geocoding and where the photo has been taken can be given. That is the place where I do it now. The present template has the advantage that the License info has been moved downwards so that the info of for example "This photo has been taken in Belgium" is more visible.
It also depends on the subject. Compare for example Image:Harderwijk_grote_kerk_B.jpg and Image:Nandina_domestica_A.jpg. In the last case there is still the "thick" Permission field so that the info about where the photo was taken is somewhat lost. Putting it in the description is not very useful. A optional separate box below description and before source would be better. May be you can rise the point in the Village pump. --Wouter (talk) 20:44, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Aantal afbeeldingen van postzegels, auteur 70 jaar dood?

Beste Wouter,

--Wouter (talk) 21:55, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
Bedankt voor deze verduidelijking. Basvb (talk) 12:19, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Pocahontas, and Other Poems

I was surprised to see, as you notified my on my Wikipedia User Page that File:Pocahontas, and Other Poems.djvu did not have any categorization or other info. I have to wonder if perhaps it was uploaded automatically from Wikisource to Commons. Probably not because it says it was edited by me, but I don't make a habit of uploading without info. Perhaps an upload problem or something.  ;) Oh, well. I added some information and categorization. Thank you for letting me know. --Mkoyle (talk) 02:34, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. There has been a discussion about that see Commons:Village_pump/Archive/2008Dec#What_about_linking_to_a_category_in_Commons_for_djvu_files.3F. Apparently a bot puts these files in Commons without any further information. May be they changed it now. I was looking at Category:Media_needing_categories to add categories to files that consider as important or ask the owner to do that. That was how I found your file. Best regards, Wouter (talk) 13:48, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Your images

Unfortunately under local copyright law, the rights of photographs of buildings and artwork are reserved by the copyright holders, which means that we cannot host them on Commons. ViperSnake151 (talk) 12:54, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

In my opinion is what you mentioned "the rights of photographs of buildings" not right. Under local copyright law is mentioned: "The modern pieces of art cannot be the central motive of a commercially available photographs without permission of the artwork copyright holder." In the The Belgian copyright act in French is mentioned " Section 3.
The Dutch version gives exactly the same info " Afdeling 3.
Could you please tell me where "the rights of photographs of buildings" is mentioned? With a search in the (older) English version I could not find it. Wouter (talk) 15:15, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Hallo Gerardus. De COM:FOP#Belgium zegt "The modern pieces of art cannot be the central motive of a commercially available photographs without permission of the artwork copyright holder." Hello, Wouterhagens/Archives/2009!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi. Do you know anything about File:600px-Acacia mellifera 3D-Modell.jpg? Why does it list you as the author? Did you upload it somewhere else? The uploader here hasn't been active since 2007 so I didn't bother leaving him a note. Thanks. Wknight94 talk 03:13, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. I have no idea why I am mentioned as author. The history shows that Dcarlson has uploaded the image but why he/she mentioned me as author I don't know. Regards, Wouter (talk) 07:17, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Wounter: Thanks for the advise and sorry for the delay of my answer. I've been putting descriptions in categories for a while for the same reason as you and trying to normalize the descriptions of categories. I used This category is for multimedia files related to to show that you only must put multimedia files, and what is the country that belong. About to the use of template ARG, maybe i can use the subst command. I think, Patagonia is so generic than Argentina; Patagonia is a region in Argentina and Chile. What do you think if we put: This category is for multimedia files related to name of the river, in name of the province, name of the country?.
