Thanks for the invitation. I looked briefly at the discussion but don't find that I have anything useful to contribute. Walter Siegmund (talk) 19:02, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Wsiegmund/Archive/2009!
Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

I'll let BotMultichillT (talk · contribs) have an opportunity at adding one or more categories (based on gallery information) before acting on this. All pictures are in galleries to help other editors find them. Thank you. Walter Siegmund (talk) 16:07, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Wsiegmund. I just need to ask you a favor. Can you please monitor the user Ronaldmolina20 (talk · contribs)? I have found several copyvios on his history. Thank you. --Snakeyes (talk) 18:47, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

I've watchlisted his/her talkpage. Thank you. Walter Siegmund (talk) 00:04, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
I removed the copyvio tag for File:Logo de Esmitv.png. PD-textlogo seems correct to me. The two tcs files may be OK, too. I would take them to COM:DR, unless you are sure PD-textlogo does not apply. Walter Siegmund (talk) 00:17, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your attention. Concerning the File:Logo de Esmitv.png, I'm sure that there's a copyvio because the logo is property of Telecorporación Salvadoreña the same owner of the other two images (TCS). Unfortunately at this very moment, the website is down, but you can check the logo over there; or if you want you can go to the official Facebook group here. Snakeyes (talk) 04:19, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
By the way, he uploaded the file as a own work. Bye. Snakeyes (talk) 04:21, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
I don't doubt that it is used by TCS, but can it be copyrighted? The {{PD-textlogo}} template says, "This image, or text depicted in it, only consists of simple geometric shapes and text. They do not meet the threshold of originality needed for copyright protection, and are therefore public domain." In my judgement, those words apply to File:Logo de Esmitv.png. I'm not sure of the two other files, but it may apply to them, as well. However, they were deleted by Abigor who does a lot more of this work than I. Fortunately, nothing is gone forever on a wiki, and mistakes are easily corrected. Please see COM:UDEL for undeletion requests. Walter Siegmund (talk) 21:02, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Well, I think the logo meets the threshold of originality. Is not a simple geometric shapes and text. It's a original work from the people of TCS. Actually the user has identified his self as the owner of the copyright, and that's not true. In the past we had the same problem with another user related to Ronalmolina: Stelita (at Spanish Wikipedia). She also has several copyvios on her history in relation with the same company: TCS. I can assure you that this is a copyrighted work that cannot be published under the GFDL or cc-by-sa licences. Thank you. I appreciate your help. Snakeyes (talk) 04:28, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
You may be right, but all I see is text and a square, i.e., PD-textlogo. It isn't my area of expertise, however. I'd still suggest a DR, but I won't revert if you restore the speedy deletion request. Walter Siegmund (talk) 05:30, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
Ok, I understand. Thank you so much for your help. Bye. --Snakeyes (talk) 00:18, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
