Hi. Could you please talk to Gazela (talk · contribs) (apparently PALIO10 at the Slovak Wikipedia), who keeps uploading football-themed copyright violations with (probably since certain point only) him-/herself as the author and the current date as the date, including scans from magazines (sometimes specified as the source; some older uploads had a real date, too), and doesn’t seem to react to English, if any at all, talk page messages? Thank you. --AVRS (talk) 17:07, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

I copy the image from FOTW, it said it is public domain, they why delete it? Matthew hk (talk) 17:47, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

--Zirland (talk) 17:53, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Yet another clarification about a deletion[edit]

Hi, I have to admit that I'm not very used to Commons (I'm mainly active on the Italian wikipedia), but it's not clear to me why you deleted File:MR spin echo.ogg. Your summary was "incorrect information". What does it mean? Incorrect information conveyed by the file itself, or incorrect licensing/other information? In the former case, could you please point me to the regular deletion discussion page that lead to the decision, I must have missed that and I would like to know why the community decided so. In the latter case, I would be grateful if you could tell me what information I should include. Thanks, see you. --IngFrancesco (talk) 20:41, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Recovered --Zirland (talk) 22:39, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! I have to say I didn't understand this policy of "shoot first, ask questions later", but fair enough. --IngFrancesco (talk) 07:26, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

One more[edit]

JamshedjiFramjiMadan.jpg got deleted by you on 6th Jan. I am not much conversant about the copyright laws. But, somewhere I saw that in Commons, an image must be in public domain in source country and in US. Since, the subject here (there is a page on him in titled Jamshedji Framji Madan) died in 1923. That makes his photographs or images in public domain in India, the source country. I believe that for US public domain also, 1923 is old enough. Can you please tell me whether this is right or wrong? Thanks.--GDibyendu (talk) 09:50, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Restored as PD. --Zirland (talk) 12:57, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Opéra Bastille 1989.jpg[edit]

Hello Zirland! Why did you delete my Image of the "Opéra Bastille 1989.jpg" due to reason of Copyright violation? I shot that image on July 15, 1989 by myself. I am the Copyright owner and you don't have delete my image. --Jüppsche (talk) 14:36, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

DRAE.jpg & DPD.jpg[edit]

Dear Zirland,

Can I ask why you deleted these images? The photos were taken by me and I put it under PD license. What was the problem? Could you please restore them or send them to me by e-mail for uploading them to the Hungarian Wikipedia? Thanks. --El Mexicano (talk) 09:32, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

A wish[edit]

Please empty pages with insults before deleting them. This is a little bit unstylish. sугсго 13:53, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for deleting the pictures[edit]

Thanks for deleting the pictures,.

sk knowledge needed[edit]

Hi Zirland,
as you seem to be the only admin with knowledge of sk, could you check the userpage and File:Obrázok 009.jpg of new user User:Ronald Malík whether this is appropriate. Thanks.--Túrelio (talk) 14:21, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Jan Sagl[edit]

--Svajcr (talk) 19:45, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

File:Tưởng niệm Trịnh Công Sơn.jpg[edit]

Why did you delete this file, while it was uploaded in flickr under Attribution 2.0 Generic? Newone (talk) 08:04, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

it is a derivative of the subject photograph which has unknown copyright status see COM:DERIV for more info --Zirland (talk) 10:18, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
The license there now is Attribution 2.0 Generic, not derivative anymore. Newone (talk) 08:53, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Děkuji! --Sir James (talk) 05:09, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Photo deleted !![edit]

You deleted "File:Parc Ichkeul.jpg" because Copyright violations; no license.

Can you tell me what was this violation ?!!

I was uploaded it and I matched all needed cases !

You deleted a photo which had a special permission from the Swiss government and what was mentioned there. If you don't understand German please ask. Please insert the photo again and inform next time before you delete. Paebi (talk) 17:37, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Care to explain this? Hesperian 13:57, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

It's simple. In combo box "Reason for deletion" the Vandalism is next to Talk page of deleted or nonexistent content. I clicked wrong. --Zirland (talk) 14:39, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of duplicates[edit]

Hi! Just found out that some of the deleted duplicates were still used. File:Blason ville fr Noailles (Oise).svg and File:Compact Flourescent-bw.jpg were both used in 3 pages. I restored both files and have replaced the uses manually and deleted the files again. Seems that CommonsDelinker is lazy :-) --MGA73 (talk) 22:37, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

OK thanks --Zirland (talk) 09:15, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

File:Berlin-Steglitz Gutshaus Steglitz Tafel.jpg[edit]

Please restore, the license is valid, and the image is free by the German law of Freedom of Panorama, as clearly stated. If you really want this image removed, please file a regular deletion request. --AndreasPraefcke (talk) 10:59, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, would you mind doing a regular DR for this file? I don't think it's eligible for copyright, but it's typically the kind of things people disagree on, so speedy deletion is probably not the best option. If you prefer, I can request undeletion, but I think it's faster this way. Thanks. –Tryphon 19:36, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! –Tryphon 20:53, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

I, as the uploader, was not advised of the missing licence in the file. I can add it anytime, please restore the image. Thank you. You always must advise the uploader before cancelling. Thanks --Sailko (talk) 09:27, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

The file will be acceptable for Commons in year 2030. --Zirland (talk) 09:35, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't underestand why you deleted it. In any case, if there was out there without a licence, maybe a vandalic edition erased it, and you better checked before deletion. Please revert it. Kindly, Linfocito B | Greetings from Colombia! 13:30, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for ignore this petition. I'm uploading it again, WITH the right licences. Your arbitrary erasing is really a shame for an admin. Kindly, Linfocito B | Greetings from Colombia! 11:45, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of File:Logolibelsmall2.png[edit]

Why was the file deleted? I provided a link. Did you look at it? The image was made by Sense About Science to be downloaded by anybody. On the right side of the following page it says "Put this web button on your site":

If that's not a Fair Use image, then I don't know what is! Please restore the image and if I have chosen the wrong documentation, then please correct it. BullRangifer (talk) 13:30, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Fair Use images are not allowed on Commons.--Zirland (talk) 17:25, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Where does it say that? Maybe this is a matter of how things are worded, and I used the wrong wording. If I had said that this was fair use of an image created for public use, would that make a difference? BullRangifer (talk) 01:39, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of File:MITS Calculator 908DM 1974.jpg[edit]

In early June I uploaded several 1970s advertisements that I believe are in the public domain. In the US, magazine copyrights do not cover the advertisements within the magazine. Previous to 1989 this required an explicit copyright notice. This rule was even stricter for work before 1978. After I uploaded these files I questioned my reasoning and asked to have the files deleted until the copyright issue was resolved. I have done more research and I am convinced these images are public domain due to no copyright notice.

Here is the summary of my research. Commons_talk:Licensing#Most_pre-1978_magazine_advertisements_are_likely_in_the_public_domain.

What is the process to get the following files undeleted?

Smazání českých mincí a bankovek[edit]

--Hadonos (talk) 16:56, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of File:Rollout of STS-128 filtered.jpg[edit]

I was wondering, when you deleted File:Rollout of STS-128 filtered.jpg, did you even read the comments on the discussion page, or on User_talk:TonyBallioni#terms_of_use_violations? Instead of commenting on those very valid objections from both TonyBallioni and myself, corroborated by information from TheDJ, you decided to just delete the image without bothering to even write a single sentence explaining why you think that we are all talking nonsense. I call this bad practice indeed. You didn't even worry about the Featured Pictures main page being disfigured by the absence of this recently promoted picture. I would really love to hear any kind of explanation for your actions. -- JovanCormac 17:50, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

  • Btw, looking through your talk page, it seems that this is not the first case of this kind you were involved in... -- JovanCormac 17:52, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi -- sorry to bother you, but can you help me figure out how to restore the pic, undoing your edit at, so that the pic is appropriate? It is simply a crop of the pic that now appears in the infobox (which is inferior, as not cropped to best reflect the subject of the article). Many thanks.-- 01:36, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
