Die geschicht dracole waide[edit]

Die geschicht dracole waide is a German pamphlet, first printed in 1488 and reprinted in the 1490s. Its title page has the oldest surviving portrait of Vlad Tepes.

German woodcuts (16th century)[edit]

Popular pamphlets based on the geschicht dracole waide were reprinted in Germany until the 1560s. Some 16th-century portraits are direct derivations from the 1488 one, others are free inventions.
