In a median sagittal section of the uterus at term three distinct por-tions are recognized: 1, corpus uteri; 2, lower uterine segment; 3,mucous membrane. 1. The corpus uteri is differentiated from thelower uterine segment by the thickness of its walls, the arrangementof its muscular elements in accord with Luschkas investigations,noticeably firmer consistence, the decidua large in amount and firmlyadherent to the mucosa. 2. The lower uterine segment is more or lesssensible in the cadaver according as the egg or presenting part is moreor less descended into the pelvic cavity, and according as it has exertedits influence for a longer or shorter period upon the already-formedlower uterine segment.
