Such aching uteri are generally large, becauseinvolution after childbirth has been incomplete. An accountof this disease therefore comprises three things : (1) The involution of the uterus. (2) The causes and effects of subinvolution. CHRONIC UTERINE PAIN. 85 (3) The chronic uterine aching known as chronic metritis,chronic engorgement, and chronic areolar hyperplasia. The involution of the uterus.—On the day alter deliverythe uterus weighs from a pound and a half to two pounds anda half, and its iundus reaches as high as the umbilicus.
