You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 15:26, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

File:Parasite (journal) cover of November 2012.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Hello! The image can not be licensed under Creative Commons Conditions since the author died long before this license creation. However it's the case of public domain, so I've corrected the license tags. Note also that the “source” field fits better for references. The “description” field should be used for information on the object depicted. Best wishes, Mithril (talk) 03:12, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- OK ! Thank you for the information, and good job with the picture improvement. Jeanloujustine (talk) 03:25, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for entering the Silhouette photo challenge. Unfortunately the image is not a photograph and is not your own original work. Sorry. -- Colin (talk) 13:12, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
File tagging File:Lim Lee Hong Susan.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Lim Lee Hong Susan.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

License of Parasite magazine
[edit]Hi Jean-Lou Justine,
The magazine Parasite which you've uploaded quite some files from has an ambiguous copyright statement on its site. On this page a link to a NON-commercial language is given as the license. While the license agreement seems to be in line with commons licenses. An ambiguous license like this combined with the precautionary principle might mean that the files can't be on commons. Are you in a position where you can get the magazine to clarify the license situation on their copyright page? Mvg, Basvb (talk) 19:50, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for this interesting remark. Clearly, the legal document of value here is the licence agreement, which is signed by authors and includes the statement: "3. I agree to the Creative Commons Attribution License
(http: //creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)". However, you are right that a sentence in the website is in contradiction with this. I will contact the publisher.Jeanloujustine (talk) 10:39, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Marionfyfea adventor (Geoplanidae) - Saveuse, France.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Marionfyfea adventor (Geoplanidae) - Saveuse, France.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

The author of the file says he did sent an OTRS. Curiously, it ask not been taken into account. I will ask him to send it again. Jeanloujustine (talk) 06:57, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
Bonjour Jean-Lou Justine,
are you doing this upload with some kind of script or software? May you please tell me how do you do the categorization?--Abschreibbar (talk) 13:15, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
a request
[edit]Dear Jean-Lou Justine, I am an Italian zoologist and I was asked to write some chapters for an Italian University textbook of systematic zoology currently in progress. I have to treat some groups, among which are Nematoda. I found in commons.wikimedia.org an image of the life cycle of Pheromermis vesparum that would be especially suitable for representing an example of parasitic nematode. Since I am not sure about copyright limits, I would like to ask you if it is possible to reproduce it (modifying legends in Italian language) : of course credit to the web site or to the owner of the image will be acknowledged. Waiting for your news, thank you in advance. Maria Balsamo maria.balsamo@uniurb.it — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 2.42.112.174 (talk) 16:55, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
