Malik Nursultan B[edit]

Hi, I wish to be able to overwrite files. Most of what I, one of the admins of the Kazakh Wikipedia (kkwiki), do upload and plan on uploading to Commons are copyright-free images uploaded from free websites with the right licensing. I have already had a bunch of experience on Commons; e.g. I have already uploaded a whole bunch of free websites, like some Russian and Kazakh government websites and have made and edited a whole bunch of categories. Wish the best for y'all. Malik Nursultan B (talk) 17:49, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Two things stand out from your talk page: a final warning from seven months ago, and recent DRs involving lack of Kazakh FOP. I'd be willing to grant you the flag for 3 months on a probationary basis. Please be more mindful about the unfortunate lack of FOP in Kazakhstan. Abzeronow (talk) 18:04, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GatewayPolitics[edit]

Hey, I'm requesting Autopatrol because I mainly make election maps and correct election maps.

For a while now, I have been requesting individual files so I can override them with updated data or shape the maps.

Would I be able to have Autopatrol? Thank you GatewayPolitics (talk) 02:30, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bert.Kilanowski[edit]

I want to update existing SVG, as I did before, like here. But when I am trying to do so, I get the message "File overwriting not allowed". Therefore I request Autopatrol rights. Thanks User:Bert.Kilanowski

Noha307[edit]

I would like to be able upload slightly improved versions (e.g. grayscale images with no color information or replace distorted versions) of existing files. Thank you. –Noha307 (talk) 14:57, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Changes from sepia to grayscale should always be done as a new file. File:North American Mustang IA 3-view line drawing.png probably should have been three different uploads. Abzeronow (talk) 17:44, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I interpreted minor and uncontroversial color correction, noise reduction, perspective correction, etc. on the overwriting guidelines as supporting the replacement in certain limited cases. It was "minor" because 1) the original image would not have had the sepia color, 2) it did not meaningfully alter the information conveyed by the image (e.g. it was already otherwise black and white), and 3) it was performed on images that were not intended as a "master" copy the goal of which was preservation, but instead an excerpt that was intended for illustration. In other words, the purpose of the image was much more about the factual data that it contained, rather than the exact replication of the content. For example, a complete aircraft manual (e.g. CG-4A manual) should not be color corrected, but a single figure (North American Mustang IA 3-view line drawing) extracted from it could. This justification would not apply to most single pages (e.g. Renault manual cover) as well.
As to why I elected not to uploaded a separate file in, for instance, the case of the Mustang IA manual, it would result in unnecessary "clutter" on Wikimedia Commons and create additional complexity due to the need to link multiple files to each other while also differentiating between them with qualifiers in the file name. Each step in the editing process was included because, while there was not sufficient difference to justify separate files, the was still a benefit to having older versions of the file available. In the case of many of the aircraft 3-views, I not only edited the images, but also performed the scans that created them myself, so it would have been just as possible to upload only the final result. In any event, if the above is an incorrect reading and does not support the case of overwriting other individual's uploads, it is my understanding that users are granted more leeway (as is evidenced by the respect content creators section of the overwriting guidelines and rationale #1 of the file renaming guidelines) when it comes to the images they create themselves. –Noha307 (talk) 21:25, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Queen of Hearts[edit]

I've made a fair few requests at COM:OWR, mainly for uncontroversial fixes (watermarks, borders, etc.), only one of which has been declined (removing a watermark from a VRT image), and would like to continue these fixes without having to ask a patroller. Thank you. Queen of Hearts (not related) 07:12, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done. Overall good. ─ Aafī (talk) 12:05, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dactylantha[edit]

I would like to apply a deletion notice in bulk to a category of images that I am appealing to be removed due to incorrect copyright status - Category:Images_from_Auckland_Museum_marked_with_cultural_permissions as per my request at Commons:Deletion_requests/Category:Images_from_Auckland_Museum_marked_with_cultural_permissions. There are ~2500 images requiring this notice as per the deletion request requirements, and OpenRefine seems untenable as a batch editing option as the reconciliation service currently has a bug that has stopped me from doing any editing to that category. Of course, if there is an alternative to AutoWikiBrowser I would be happy to hear it - anything is better than copy and pasting 2500 times! Thank you. Dactylantha (talk) 01:47, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dactylantha, you could request that job to be done on Commons:Bots/Work requests. --Achim55 (talk) 18:31, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Militum professio scriniarii[edit]

As a military archivist, I regularly see many files incorrectly named - ranging from basic typos, incorrect military units or terminology - right through to the obviously meaningless or ambiguous names. I have made a significant number of rename requests, and to the best of my knowledge, have never had a rename request rejected. However, I am aware that I might sometimes overload current filemovers (I sometimes see backlogs), so I would be happy to take on the role myself. Thank you. Militum professio scriniarii (talk) 11:12, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wait I just declined several renaming requests, they were not completely wrong but not fully appropriate either. This person is probably a good candidate but I feel it's a bit too early. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 12:17, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Svenskbygderna[edit]

I am requesting Filemover status on Commons. I have made over 1,500 edits on Commons and 2,000 on Wikipedia. I am an experienced editor and have a good understanding of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I would like to be able to move files to correct names and to help with file maintenance tasks. Specifically, I am wanting to rename a lot of Minnesota map files to have a consistent naming scheme. Thank you. Svenskbygderna (talk) 15:59, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any recent renaming requests. (I also will note that I just granted you the autopatroller right). So you might want to show the need for the file moving tool. Abzeronow (talk) 17:44, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the response. I have just demonstrated in my recent naming requests what I intend to use this renaming right for. Svenskbygderna (talk) 20:33, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hehua[edit]

Hello, I plan to use this right to move the meaningless files in cat:Harbin. I made over 1000 edits in commons and I was a filemover in zhwiki before it canceled this right. Thank you. Hehua (talk) 15:38, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Abzeronow Could you deal with my request? Thank you. Hehua (talk) 02:49, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't usually make decisions on filemover requests (since I have less familiarity with that). I'm not seeing any recent renaming requests here on Commons. I'll wait a little longer (at least a few more days) to see if anyone else weighs in. Abzeronow (talk) 18:15, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thank you. Hehua (talk) 03:54, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hehua: Hi, can you please show me some of your file renaming requests? Phương Linh (talk) 14:50, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, you can see them in my contribution and https://w.wiki/A7Hf . Hehua (talk) 03:16, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
