US Navy Public Service Awards
The United States Department of the Navy's Public Service Awards are awarded to private citizens and/or organizations for outstanding voluntary contributions to the mission and best interests of the Department of the Navy. For example, it could be awarded for contributions to the development of enhanced operational proficiency, establishment of a scholarship fund for children of military members who lost their lives in action, or establishment of a local naval history museum. The awards are designed to provide formal recognition for individuals or groups who are not employed by the Department of the Navy, or who were not so employed during the period for which a public service award is recommended. They may also be used for senior Department of the Navy officials in non-career or appointive positions.[1]
Distinguished Public Service Award
