w:William Ranson Mortlock (1821-1884) arrived in South Australia on the Imaum of Muscat on 9 November 1843. Along with his son, w:William Tennant Mortlock (1858-1913), grandson, w:John Andrew Tennant Mortlock (1894-1950), and John's wife w:Dorothy Elizabeth Mortlock (1906-1979), the Mortlocks have left the Waite Agricultural Research Institute, the University of Adelaide, the State Library of South Australia, the City of Adelaide and the State of South Australia with many significant and lasting legacies.

Ena Mabel Doswell and Rita Templer at Martindale Hall, Mintaro - DESCRIPTION Mabel Doswell and her companion Rita Templer in a pony cart outside the main entrance of Martindale Hall. The Mortlock family purchased a house at 23 Kingston Terrace, Medindie, for Mabel in 1924. In return she provided hostess services for F. Ranson Mortlock when he visited Adelaide. DATE ca.1925

Ena Mabel Doswell (1877-1961), eldest daughter of Morris and Harriet (nee Denton) Doswell, was born at North Adelaide on 14/11/1877. The Mortlock family bought a house for her at 23 Kingston Terrace, Medindie in return for hostess duties when F. Ranson Mortlock was in Adelaide. Ena's companion from 1919 to 1940 was Rita Templer, living together at Hawkers Road, Medindie, and Kingston Terrace, Medindie. Mabel died on 9/8/1961 and was buried in North Road Cemetery. DATE ca.1925

William Ranson Mortlock, son of William Tennant Mortlock and Rosina Forsayth Tennant, born at Port Adelaide 27 October 1891, died at Glenelg 16 July 1892. DATE 1892

William Ranson Mortlock, born Melbourn near Cambridge, England, he came to South Australia in 1843, aged 22. After first purchasing Yalluna Run near Port Lincoln he became a major landholder on Eyre Peninsula and in the North of South Australia. In 1850 he married Margaret Tennant, and they had four children, Jessie (1851), Mary (1853) Florence (1856) and William Tennant (1858). MHR for the seat of Flinders May 1868 to Mar. 1870, Dec. 1871 to Jan. 1875 and Apr. 1878 to Mar. 1884, William died at his Medindie property, Avenel House, 10 May 1884, and was buried in the North Road Cemetery.
