English: Nieuw-Nickerie (pronounced 'Niekérie') is the second largest city in Suriname (after Paramaribo), with a population of little over the 13.000, and it is located in Nickerie district. It lies on the mouth of the Nickerie river on the Atlantic coast, opposite the mouth of the Corantijn river (Courantyne) and the Guyanese town of Corriverton (Springlands), to which a ferry service operates.
