Category:Polski Fiat 125p
Polski Fiat 125p was produced in two engine versions, 1300 and 1500, these were powered by the engines from Fiat 1300 and Fiat 1500 respectively. The name of the engine version is part of the vehicle's name thus Polski Fiat 125p powered by the 1.3 l engine is known as Polski Fiat 125p 1300 and Polski Fiat 125p powered by the 1.5 l engine is known as Polski Fiat 125p 1500.
In 1978 FSO Polonez, a successor to Polski Fiat 125p, entered production. However Polski Fiat 125p and since 1983 FSO 125p were produced alongside it until 1991.
Polski Fiat 125p underwent yearly modernizations with each new version improving some of the vehicle's aspects. Here is a list of Polski Fiat 125p production versions and how each can be differentiated from the previous one:(read more ...) |

English: NOTE: This list mentions only the differences that can be noted from outside. It does NOT mention many internal changes which are impossible to see without being the owner or knowing the owner of the vehicle.
Please note that from 1971 until 1983 Polski Fiat 125p was named in the following fashion: Polski Fiat 125p MR'XX where MR stands for "Model Roku" (literally Model of the Year) and in place of XX there are last two digits of the year when the given model was produced.
There was also a 5-door station wagon variant known as Polski Fiat 125p Kombi (produced from 1971) and a 2-door pickup truck variant known as Polski Fiat 125p Pick-up (produced from 1975). Both received the same yearly modernizations as the standard sedan model. There was also a series of 70 6-door stretch limousines (known as Polski Fiat 125p LONG, it was produced beween 1974 and 1977 thus different examples have features of MR'74, MR'75, MR'76 and MR'77) and 7 6-door stretch convertibles (these could have only been produced between 1974 and March 1975 as all examples have features of MR'74) based on Polski Fiat 125p. There was also a small series of 5-door stretch station wagons however they were made much later as they were based on FSO 125p (as evidenced by the side indicators on the fenders from FSO Polonez MR'78/MR'83). These three vehicles are generally known under the nickname Jamnik (Polish for Dachshund). There were many different versions of Polski Fiat 125p depending on the equipment. For example between 1972 and 1975 there was a small series of Polski Fiat 125p automobiles in both the 1300 and 1500 engine versions fitted with a sunroof. Some of the export versions also had a sunroof. Between 1977 and 1978 a luxurious version of the Polski Fiat 125p, known as Polski Fiat 125p LUX, was produced. It is recognizable mostly by the two big rectangular headlamps imported from the German Democratic Republic instead of the usual four small circular ones and the LUX writing to the left of the rear license plate. Since October 1980 Polski Fiat 125p automobiles available in what was then known as "internal export" had three equipment versions: "Popular", "Standard" and "LUX" (Please note this version is different from the Polski Fiat 125p LUX version produced between 1977 and 1978). "Popular" version was the worst equipped out of the three as it lacked, among other things, side strips, headrests, ashtrays and wheel caps and had armrests half the size they normally were. Please note that although it lacked side strips, headrests and wheel caps it did not lack the mountings for them so it was entirely possible to fit those at a later date. The "Standard" version had everything that the "Popular" lacked and a tachometer. The "LUX" version was the best equipped version out of the three and the most expensive as it cost the same as the "Popular" version of FSO Polonez MR'78. It had, among other things, additional halogen fog lights on the front, front seats from FSO Polonez MR'78 made from cloth, black chrome wipers and a "LUX" chrome badge. Polski Fiat 125p, and later FSO 125p, was used by Milicja Obywatelska as a patrol car. These were at first painted white with blue stripes and later blue with white stripes. Milicja Obywatelska used both the sedan and station wagon (Polski Fiat 125p Kombi) versions. There was an ambulance variant based on Polski Fiat 125p Kombi, called Polski Fiat 125p Sanitarka. It was used by hospitals and other medical facilities in Poland as a primary vehicle for transporting patients. All examples of the ambulance version had the 1481 cc engines. They can distinguished from the standard station wagon by the additional air inlet on the roof. Polski Fiat 125p was exported to over 80 countries around the world including the Warsaw Pact members, Western Europe countries like the United Kingdom, France or the Federal Republic of Germany, South American countries like Columbia and Asian countries like the People's Republic of China. In many cases the export models differed in some way or another from the models produced for the home market. For example the Polski Fiat 125p Finn Special created in 1973 for the Finnish market featured a more powerful 1.5 l engine developing 82 hp, Compomotive wheels as well as a two-color upper body. In case of some export markets Polski Fiat 125p was sold under different names, for example in 1981 and 1982 Polski Fiat 125p was sold in the United Kingdom under the FSO Cars brand instead of the Polski Fiat brand. This changed in 1983 when FSO re-branded Polski Fiat 125p to FSO 125p on all markets including the home market. There was also an instance around 1984 of the FSO 125p in both the sedan and station wagon version being sold in the dutch market under the name Polonez (most probably to capitalize on the popularity of the FSO Polonez at the time and the fact that Polonez did not as of then have a sedan and station wagon variants) where it was also sold under the name FSO Polda. Polski Fiat 125p was also assembled under FSO license, using parts supplied by FSO, between 1969 and 1983 by the Yugoslav automobile manufacturer Zavodi Crvena Zastava under the name Zastava 125pz (the first model assembled was Zastava 125pz 1300, assembly of other models and variants, including the pickup truck variant, began later) and between 1972 and 1983 by the Egyptian automobile manufacturer Nasr under the name Nasr 125. Assembly was also carried out by automobile manufacturers since 1973 in Columbia and since 1975 in Thailand and Indonesia. |
