[edit]Description"Most of the girls I meet are just worried about their futures" (14680478564).jpg |
Khadija is a Lebanese educator working with the Italian NGO Intersos in southern Lebanon. "Most of the girls I meet are just worried about their futures", says Khadija. "Being married too early is one of their main concerns. They are worried about pregnancy. They worry about how they will cope, and would just rather be in school to finish their education". “Most of them know at least someone from their community who has been married early, and often this is because of financial pressures. We’re trying to work with them and their parents to provide information and alternatives to reduce these pressures.” Intersos is being supported by UK aid to provide help to girls who are refugees from Syira and Lebanese girls as well. Girls and young women from both communities are at increased risk of sexual violence and early marriage due in part to pressures created by the conflict in Syria.
