Description

Near the main entrance to Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago (IL) is the the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors' memorial.

Entitled "Our Heroes", this memorial was designed by sculptor Leonard Volk and completed in 1870.

The four bronze plaques on the sides represent Union cavalry, infantry, artillery, and naval units.

On top of the memorial's 30-foot limestone shaft is a marble figure of a Union standard bearer holding his flag in his left hand and a bugle in the right.
