English: Ordinary mantis, or religious mantis (Latin Mantis religiosa) is an insect from the family of true praying mantises of a group of praying mantises. A large predatory insect with forelegs adapted for grasping food. It reaches 42-52 mm (male) or 48-75 mm (female) in length. The academic name of the mantis in the distant 1758 was given by the great Swedish naturalist Karl Liney, who noted that the panting of a mantis, who is in ambush and guarding prey, is very similar to that of a man who folded his hands in prayer. In the mating habits of mantises, the female after the mating process (and sometimes right during the process) eats her unlucky chevalier. This city mantis was found and photographed in Khmelnitsky.
