Description
English: Last small cross penny of King Æthelred II of England, struck at Stamford, Lincolnshire, by the moneyer Godeleof: the coin reads "✢ÆĐELRÆD REX ANGL•" on the obverse and "✢GʘDELEʘF ʘN ƧTA•NF" on the reverse (compare Wells, W.C., "The Stamford and Peterborough Mints (continued from Vol.XXIII, p.28)", in British Numismatic Journal XXIV, 1945, p. 105, No. 213). Peck marks on both sides show testing for silver content, probably with a knife, in Scandinavia.
