Тюльпан — трав'янистий цибулинний багаторічник. Висота рослин коливається залежно від виду і сорту від 10-20 до 65-100 см. Коренева система складається із щорічно відмираючого додаткового коріння, розташованого на підковоподібній нижній частині донця. Квітка зазвичай одна, але є багатоквіткові види (Tulipa praenstas, Tulipa turkestanica) і сорти від них, на квітконосі яких 3-5 квіток і більше. Квітка правильна, двостатева, оцвітина з шести вільних листочків, тичинок шість, з подовженими пиляками; товкачик з верхньою тригнізною зав'яззю, коротким стовпчиком і трилопатевим рильцем. Квітки видових тюльпанів частіше червоні, жовті, рідше білі. Забарвлення сортових тюльпанів найрізноманітніше: від чисто-білої, жовтої, червоної, пурпурової, фіолетової і майже чорної до поєднання двох, трьох або декількох барв. Форма квітки теж різноманітна: келихоподібна, чашоподібна, овальна, лілієподібна, махрова (піоноподібна), бахромова, зірчаста. Квітки великі, завдовжки до 12 см, діаметром від 3 до 10 см, а в повному розкритті у видових тюльпанів до 20 см. Плід — багатонасінна тригранна коробочка. Насіння плоске, трикутне, коричнево-жовте, розташоване горизонтально у два ряди в кожному гнізді коробочки.
English: Garden tulip (Tulipa gesneriana L., 1753) from the genus Tulip (Tulipa L. 1753) family Lily (Liliaceae Juss. 1789, nom. cons.).
Tulip is a herbaceous bulbous perennial. The height of plants varies depending on the species and variety from 10-20 to 65-100 cm. The root system consists of additional roots dying annually, located on the horseshoe-shaped lower part of the bottom. There is usually one flower, but there are many-flowered species (Tulipa praenstas, Tulipa turkestanica) and varieties from them, on the peduncle of which there are 3-5 flowers or more. Flower regular, bisexual, perianth of six free leaves, six stamens, with elongated anthers; pistil with an upper three-celled ovary, a short style and a three-lobed stigma. The flowers of specific tulips are often red, yellow, less often white. The color of varietal tulips is the most diverse: from pure white, yellow, red, purple, violet and almost black to a combination of two, three or more colors. The shape of the flower is also diverse: goblet, cup-shaped, oval, lily-shaped, double (peony-shaped), fringed, star-shaped. The flowers are large, up to 12 cm long, 3 to 10 cm in diameter, and in full disclosure in specific tulips up to 20 cm. The fruit is a multi-seeded trihedral box.
