English: As the second holiest city in Iran (after Mashhad) and the center of study for religious clerics and students, Qom has a reputation for being conservative, and is therefore just a city to pass through on many travelers’ itineraries. But that would mean missing out on the many architectural, cultural, and natural sites it has to offer.
The modern city has the largest madrasah (theological college) in the country, where students can specialize in Islamic law, philosophy, theology, and logic. It was at Qom that the Iranian army surrendered to Islamic revolutionary militia in 1979. Following the Islamic Revolution in Iran early in 1979, the revolution’s principal figure, the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, again took up residence in Qom, whence he had been exiled by the shah, and made the town his seat. Qom est une des villes saintes du chiisme, puisque c'est le site où est enterrée Hazrat Fatimah Ma'soumeh, sœur de Ali ar-Rida (en persan Imam Reza, 789-816). La ville accueille la plus grande hawza d'Iran, qui égale en taille celle de Nadjaf en Irak.

Staden är en av shiamuslimernas heligaste och är Irans teologiska centrum där alla troslärda utbildas. De två mest kända moskéerna är Fatima al-Masumahs moské och Jamkaran-moskén. Före den arabiska invasionen på 600-talet var orten ett viktigt centrum för Anahita-dyrkan.

العربية: مدينة قُم هي إحدى مدن إيران و التي تعتبر الحوزة العلمية فيها المركز العلمي الديني للشيعة بعد النجف. تقع على بعد 157 كم جنوب العاصمة طهران. وترتفع المدينة نحو 930 م فوق مستوى سطح البحر. يحدها من الشمال مدينة طهران، ومن الجنوب مدينة أصفهان، ومن الغرب مدينة اراك، ومن الشرق محافظة سمنان، وتوجد بالمدينة العديد من المزارات الدينية أهمها مرقد فاطمة المعصومة بنت موسى الكاظم.
فارسی: شهر قم سابقه سکونت دیرینه پیش از اسلام را دارد. این شهر در گذشته در شاه راه جاده ابریشم و در مسیر عبور و مرور کاروان های تجاری داخل و خارج از ایران قرار داشته است.
