中文（繁體）：排灣族木雕人像，臺北市中正區城內次分區黎明里（臺北城內石坊街）
English: The domestic houses of the (Paiwan) tribal chiefs and nobles are more special than ordinary ones. Wooden eave-beams between the main doorway and eaves are carved with human heads, hundred pacer snakes, and deer. Inside the houses, the central posts are carved with live-sized figures of men and women; these are called "bobo", meaning "ancestors' post." These carvings symbolize the glory of the family prestige……In the chief's house in Kabiangan Village, Mr. Torii and I saw a carved "bobo", the largest of all the carvings. Whereas in Calaabus, Calasiu, Pulci Village, and other places, I saw many ancestral stone carvings, but all in all, the large ancestral woodcarvings are the most precious……In Kabiangan Village, I also saw some ancient pottery still preserved; these were ancestral heirlooms. |
