English: SkyVille@Dawson was the Housing & Development Board's attempt to reconsider how the design of social housing can simultaneously have social, technological, and aesthetic quality. The architects introduced the concept of the "vertical village" for the community as a unit to enjoy green sky gardens and public facilities and to provide residents with cool and comfortable communal spaces. Even people who are not residents of the SkyVille@Dawson can make use of the landscape park, cafes, and shopping mall on the ground floor, as well as the roof with its 300-meter-long walkway that offers a bird's-eye view of the cityscape. In consideration of Singapore's hot and humid climate, the architects made good use of passive design such as the building's orientation and grating on the outer walls to lower energy expenses for air conditioning and create a prectical public community with a recognizable look.
