Summary[edit]
Description(Former) Armitage Tunnel, Staffordshire - geograph.org.uk - 1680153.jpg |
English: (Former) Armitage Tunnel, Staffordshire Trent and Mersey Canal. The tunnel, which was about 120 metres in length, had its roof removed in 1971 because of subsidence damage being caused by nearby coal mining. What remains is a deep narrow cutting through sandstone, wide enough only for a single narrowboat to pass. |
