Description

After a long break away posting photos onto Flickr, a 2nd Covid-19 lockdown (In England) frees up more time at home to catch up. Overall 2020 has been a year pretty much written off in terms of railway trips. I managed a 5 day trip in late January and early February before the pandemic pretty much ground things to a halt. All my booked and planned European trips for the rest of 2020 were unfortunately cancelled. Despite foreign travel restrictions being eased around July, what I had got booked short notice for Germany and France subsequently had to be cancelled again thanks to restrictions being out back in again.

I managed to get out and about in the UK a bit once "non essential" travel restrictions on public transport were lifted. This included a few day trips out and a few nights away taking advantage of some good priced hotel accommodation. I have posted some photos from various trips in 2020 in and around the UK and these will appear in due course.

On 3 November 2020 I headed over to the Isle of Wight for a trip to say farewell to the class 483 EMUs. My first trip over to the island since July 1991. Going out from Portsmouth to Ryde via the Wightlink Catamaran, after a break in Ryde I grabbed a chance to take a photograph of Griffon built Hovercraft no. GH2160 named "Solent Flyer" operated by Hovertravel who at the time were the only operator to run a commercial passenger service all year round. Seen pulling into Ryde Hoverport on the 12:30 from Southsea.
