Description

September 2019 was only my second visit to Norway since going there with Adrian Nicholls ("Marra Man") way back in June 1986. Whilst a lot had changed in the 33 years, there was still some of the rolling stock from back then running around in 2019. A noticeable reduction in loco hauled passenger trains in particular the popular Nohab built Di3s and older electrics. However, with many other countries, passenger numbers have increased especially for local traffic and more regional trains now operated around the bigger cities like Oslo and here, Trondheim.

Having changed from the Swedish rail network to the Norwegian at Storlien, journey was by way of one of the 2-car BM92 DMUs built in the mid-1980s through to Trondheim where I had a few hours layover. Early 2019 Norweigan State Railways (Norges Statsbaner - NSB) was rebranded Vy as it was merged with bus operations. However there is a program of tendering of routes to other operators and contracts have already been awarded for several. In fact trains north of Oslo via both routes to Trondheim and further north to Bodø have been awarded to Swedish State Railways (SJ).

Seen at Trondheim Sentral on 8 September 2019 is set 9205 on train 430, 09:28 Steinkjer to Lundamo.
