Own work Self-made to give a rough estimate. Used the source from page 127 and 128 of Douglas Jardine's "Mad Mullah of Somaliland" wherein a 1903 report by Charles Egerton wherein he specifies the Dhulbahante tribe as encompassing the dervishes, stating "it is well known the Dolbahanta tribe are adherents of the Mullah" and "without them, the Mullah is powerless". As such, I used this source by Markus Hoehne (archived here), [1], [2] which marks out Dhulbahante lands to define the northern borders; furthermore, I used an image from University of Pennsylvania study titled "Changing Pastoralism in the Ethiopian Somali National Regional State" by Jama Sugule and Robert Walker, in the second image of the paper titled "Map 2: Clan Distribution in NW Somalia/Ethiopia" which illustrates the southernmost Dhulbahante territory as Dannood (link). I used an rough outline for all localities after searching for their locations through Google Maps. A contemporaneous source, on page 138 of "A Grammar of the Somali Language" by J. W. C. Kirk in 1905, depicts Dhulbahante territories stretching south up to Geladi (link). |
