Description
Deutsch: 03.02.2001 37445 Walkenried: Das Kloster ist eine ehemalige Zisterzienserabtei (GMP: 51.583090,10.619270) in Walkenried. Der Gründungskonvent zog 1129 ein und begann mit dem Bau der romanischen Kirche. Die Blütezeit des Klosters lag im 12. und 13. Jahrhundert. Der gotische Kirchenneubau wurde vor 1209 initiiert. 1290 konnte die Kirche geweiht werden. Mitte des 14. Jahrhunderts begann der Niedergang. Im Jahr 1546 trat das Ordenskapitel zur Reformation über. Der weitere Abriss der Kirchenruine wurde 1817 verboten. Der Gebäudekomplex umfasst die Ruine der Klosterkirche sowie das größtenteils erhaltene gotische Klausurgebäude, 2006 zum Zisterziensermuseum Kloster Walkenried ausgebaut. Im Bild: Ehemaliger Kapitelsaal, seit 1570 Gottesdienstraum, heute als Ev. Maria- und Martini-Kirche genutzt. Die um 1220 gefertigte Piszine stand wohl einst in der romanischen Kirche und diente als Ausgussbecken für die Reinigung der liturgischen Geräte. Die Piszine ist architektonisch durchgestaltet, der Schaft einem Bündelpfeiler nachempfunden. Sie wird von der evangelischen Kirchengemeinde als Taufbecken genutzt.
