Deutsch: 02.05.2003 39345 Flechtingen, Lindenplatz: Wasserburg/Schloß (GMP: 52.331118,11.238324). Die Wasserburg Flechtingen war der ursprüngliche Stammsitz der Adelsfamilie Schenck von Flechtingen. Die ältesten Gebäudeteile entstanden um 1300, zu ihnen gehören die Ringmauer, der Palas und der Bergfried. Erste große Veränderungen wurden 1483 mit der Verlagerung der Burg nach Westen vorgenommen. Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts wurden spätgotische Bauelemente hinzugefügt, 100 Jahre später erhielt die Anlage Veränderungen im Renaissance-Stil. Um 1600 wurde die ehemalige Zugbrücke durch eine Dammzufahrt ersetzt. Bei den letzten Umbauten zwischen 1840 und 1890 erhielt das Wasserschloß sein historistisch-neugotisches Aussehen. Nach der Enteignung des Schlosses diente es 1945 zunächst als Flüchtlingsunterkunft. Danach wurde es als Genesungsheim genutzt, ehe es 1958 von den Grenztruppen der Volksarmee übernommen wurde. Von 1964 bis 1993 war das Schloß ein Altersheim.
