Deutsch: 01.05.2004 06268 Vitzenburg (Querfurt): Hoch über der Unstrut liegt Schloß Vitzenburg (GMP: 51.298940,11.568470). Die Anfänge der Burg liegen in karolingischer und ottonischer Zeit Ende des 9. Jh. als Kloster. Im Bauernkrieg schwer verwüstet, wurde es im Zuge der Reformation 1540 aufgehoben. Von 1574 bis 1587 ließen Nickel und Valten von Lichtenhayn die zum Teil abgebrannte Vorburg wieder aufbauen. 1586/87 erfolgte unter Valten von Lichtenhayn, vermutlich nach Plänen von N. Delitzscher, der Umbau der Burg zum zweiflügeligen Renaissanceschloß. Hans Heinrich III. von Heßler ließ 1665 vor dem Schloß in Vitzenburg ein Rittergut errichten. Von 1764 bis 1767 wurden das Schloß und das ehemalige Kloster unter Leitung von Friedrich Moritz von Heßler im Barockstil umgebaut. Nach 1843 ließ Graf Heinrich Moritz II. von der Schulenburg-Heßler das Schloß im Stil der Neorenaissance und des Neobarock umbauen. 1934 wurde das Rittergut Vitzenburg wieder aufgebaut. Nach dem Ende des II. Weltkrieges wurde der Grundbesitz der Familie von Münchhausen auf Vitzenburg enteignet und an Neubauern und Landarbeiter aufgeteilt. Das Schloß wurde Schulgut, Jugendheim, Ausbildungsstätte für Lehrer. 1948 wurde die "Landwirtschaftsschule Vitzenburg mit angeschlossenem Provinzialschulgut" gegründet. 1969 wurde das Schloß zum Fachkrankenhaus für Kinder- und Jugendpsychiatrie umgebaut, aber 1996 wieder geschlossen.
